Been looking for a newer sled and I think I have found a good deal on a 2002 summit x 800 w/ 151.
I don't know any thing about this year the motor or how they run. just what to know if this was a good year and a good sled?

thanks

good sleds. the motors might have a bad rep, but that is typically something that will have been fixed with a sled that old. If it runs good and has good compression. looks ok and u like it i say go for it. I had a 99 summit 600 which was the first skidoo reed valve motor. They said those were bad motors too. Mine had 3500 miles on it when i sold it w not much problems. Dont believe everything u read on here. A couple bad experiences and the whole moddle year was junk..... tak to the local dealer. they see hundreds of them a year they know what problems there. good luck.
PS
I loved my ZX chassis sled. Maybe more than my rev.

The motor problem with the 800 ski doo in that year was the piston rings if you buy it put a set of duel ring pistons in it and go rkt also makes a drop in kit that work pretty good

options

I have a 01 ZX with an 809(nearly new)tripple for sale and am willing to negotiate. My stock motor blew up at 2300 mi.The piston failure was common due to the ring setup. My sled has many upgrades and is reliable. The 809 is arguably the best snowmobile engine ever produced.

02 doo

I had a 02 doo, went through 3 motors in 1100 miles.bought another one and lost a lower rod bearing in the first 40 miles.(had 1600 miles on it)shelled the lower half..just my luck..had buddies that put 3000 miles on them with no worries..i think the 03 with the h.o is a better motor..

I sure like my 02 800 summits. Handle the powder fine . I would replace pistons (factory) at around 2900 miles . I have and replaced the with SPI pistons. Have had great luck with them.

Had a 02 800 and it ran awesome, just as good as the REV. I replaced the problematic rings with newer model and didn't have any issues until 6000km when a bearing failed and took out the entire motor. Replaced the motor with an HO and it worked just as well. Great sled overall.

Hey - I currently own an 02 800 summit x with the following mods

fabcraft polished aluminum tunnel
fabcraft gas rack
rush light weight trailing arms
rush aluminum radius rods
RkTech head w/ sea level & 14:1 domes
extrovert drivers
re-geared
light weight 440 mxzx racing primary clutch (summit ramps installed)
med weight adj pin kit
v-force reeds (new pedals installed @ rebuild)
secondary clutch kit / dual angle helix
light weight boss seat
light weight trix-tuff aluminum front spindles
ceramic coated y-pipe & exhaust pipe
PPP can
speedo was removed & replaced w/ SLP air vent
Shocks have just been rebuilt
Blew the motor at 2500 miles - just replaced both pistons with the MCB moly-coated piston (dual ring design)
16x144 ported track installed

Sled will flat out fly & rips in the powder -sled is reliable & I wouldn't be afraid to buy one. If that doesn't work out - send me a note - I'm looking to upgrade to an XP or XRS. 763428-3164

Thanks
Jason
