Timbersled suspension

Put my new timbersled front and rear suspension on last week and took it out today. Got a few adjustments to make. Front end seemed to be plowing quite a bit. Limiter strap will be lengthened and the rear shocks will get a pressure decrease. Any other suggestions?

I'll be riding with Allen tomorrow....I'll ask him.

Is your suspension installed with custom Timbersled rails or another configuration?

What is the current length of the limiter straps (center to center?)

What are your pressures front and rear track shocks?

What are your pressures front ski shocks?

If the shocks on the skis and/or skid are float evols...or the float-x in the rear... what are your clickier/DSC/Rebound settings there?

What brand/model skis are you running?
What carbides?
What is the stance of your ski bushings?
Are the skis modified at all?

What exactly do you mean by "plowing".... do you mean pushing in the corners and not steering?? Do you mean the front end is diving???

What year and model of sled do you have?

Was the timbersled new or used?

Are there any mods to the sled like a different tunnel, drop brackets etc???

The more info you give... the better... The more accurate the better.

Post up a GOOD photo of the rear skid as installed in YOUR sled.... that will help a lot.

If you put them up in the morning... I may just be able to get you and answer before we ride.... Maybe... It is sunday you know.

Heavy on front end

Brand new timber sled front and rear on '08 XP 163 ice age rails powder pro skis. Tried all the ranges of air pressures in the shocks. Different limiter strap lenghts from one extreme to the other as per Timbersled instructions. So heavy on front couldn't steer almost seemed like I didn't have the right parts because there was no action and so stiff in the rear suspension. Broke off stock rear hanger put Timbersleds on still no diiference. Ended up taking off and putting stock skid back on.

Revtech100,

Post up some pics, answer the questions above and I try to help you get the answers you need.

I just rode an '09 XP 163" with all the Timbersled suspension stuff on it and floats in the front.... a very sweet riding machine in the bumps, deep stuff and climbing.... and I only weigh 155 lbs.

Hopefully, I can help get you the right info/setup so you can go out there and have a good ride

xlogger, It is really unfortunate that you had problems with your setup, did you call Allen or Budd at Timbersled? They'd be able to get you dialed in... I have not seen one that they couldnt get the owner happy with.

I have a 146" 2009 XP 800R.

Complete Timbersled including the rails.

Front shock had 75 lbs. not sure why. reduced to 55. Rear 145, reduced to 130.

Front shocks are stock skidoo

Stock skis and carbides. Stance is 38". one timbersleds busing each side. I flipped the skis left to right, right to left.

Front end is diving. Very heavy. Fought the steering all day. no or very little floatation. did well in the bumps. No sway bar. I removed it.

Limiter strap was on 6th hole as reccomended.

No tunnel mods. Ordered the timbersled drop brackets but didn't install them. Using stock brackets.

Timbersled was brand spanken new and ordered from Allen.

Let me know if y ou need anything else.

I'll show him these in the morning and see what he says...

You should give him a call around 10 am at the shop as well.

Well... Nothing jumped out at Allen this morning.

Call him at the shop 208-255-5644 around noon Pacific time...He said he'd have you on the snow and happy quickly.

I have the mt tamer 154 on my xp now for now 2years. I found that the sixth hole on the limiter strap had little to none for ski lift, great when climbing hills all day but not the best boondocking so I got the straps let all the way out. Still there is not near as much ski lift to the stock skid and still climbs without a ton of lift.
Also I did break off the rear drop brackets too with this skid too, but there are people even breaking them with the stock skid too.
The first season with the stock set up floats for the mt tamer IMO they rode terrible very stiff I tried many different air pressures either it be way too soft or way too stiff at the beginning of the travel, i'd still bottom out, and the rebound I found too slow, all for my agressive riding style liking, maybe cause of the regular float shock.
Now I have revalved those shocks so the rebound is a little faster and worked on the compression shim stack, added a nextech ressy on the rear shock. A complete world of differance. Now it soaks up the bumps feels way nicer droping and taking jumps, bottoms out way less. I 48psi in the front track shock and 120 in the rear, as before I had 55 in the front and 150 in the rear. I like the skid but the shocks are lacking, maybe with the new floatx shock they ride better. Mine is the 08 setup with the update kit on it.

run 45# in the frt. shock, 100# in the rear shock, and put a 1/4" shim on the TOP SIDE of the slide mech. if the rear arm bottoms out add 5# at a time until it stops. thanks budd

I talked to Allen this morning and he told me the same except for the air pressure. I'll play with that until it feels right. you guys are great on your responses. Much appreciated!

Keep us posted... The timbersled crew works hard to make people happy with thier parts.

good luck!!

Suspension worked well. Had to adjust the stock front shocks. Works 1000% better. Have to let the limiter strap out one more to let it float a little more. Loved the way it handled the bumps. Now if we had a little more snow I'd be carving like a mad man! Thanks to Timbersled to getting me on the right path.

Revtech, did you weigh the Timbersled vs stock skid? If so, how much weight difference is there?? Im considering a TS rear

Couple questions, What rider weight is the above shock pressure recommendation for?

Can you explain the 1/4" shim placement in a little more detail?

Thanks
