Tell me about McCall....

Shhhhhhh everyone! Its our little secret.

We don't want more out of state license plates in our parking lots :)

A friendly area

McCall is a very friendly area. Less than 10% of Valley County, 3733 sq. miles is privately owned. We are literally surrounded by Payette National Forest. There are a number of snowmobile parking lots less 10 - 30 minutes from McCall. Francis Wallace (Warren Wagon Road) will put you on a trail with several play areas just off the trail. You can ride out to Burgdorf Hot Springs, stop for a burger and beverage at Secesh Stage Stop and ride on to the historic town of Warren. Upper Elevation Parking Lot is on the road to Burgdorf Ski Area. That trail system will take you out to a number of play areas. Make sure you pick up a map and designate 43A when you pick up a sticker for your sled. Paul's Market is one of the easiest places to pick up a sticker. West Face Parking Lot is right off Hwy 55 across from Bear Creek Lodge if you have a long trailer or if Upper Elevation is full. It will take you into the same terrain as Upper Elevation. You can also ride in the Donnelly, Cascade, Warm Lake - Stanley, and Smiths Ferry area. Many miles of trail to travel if you are so inclined. A lot of varying terrain off trail. Check the grooming report www.secesh.net/Groomer.htm and the avalanche report before you go out.

The best food in town? Shore Lodge if you are looking for high end dining, spa, rooms overlooking the frozen lake. The Pancake House has great food too at a lower price. A great place to get breakfast all day. Ask and they will pack you a lunch for the trail. My Father's Place makes great milkshakes and burgers. Subway is our only chain restaurant. Si Buenos has Mexican food just across from the airport. Pueblo Lindo is on Hwy 55 just past Warren Wagon Road. Lardo's is also on Hwy 55 in that area.

Winter Carnival starts this Friday and runs through the next two weekends. I hope you already have a reservation in you are planning on coming then.

Super 8 has a large parking lot as does the Best Western.

I'm less of a partyer these days so you many want to ask where the action is after you get to town. Some of the microbreweries have live music on occasion as well as a number of other locations including Foresters. The McCall Area Snowmobile Club has a Fun Run coming up February 6th. The Friends of the Payette Avalanche Center has a Fund Raiser February 13th at the Little Ski Hill. The LSH will be open for night skiing that night. The Idaho State Snowmobile Association ride is Feb 27 and 28th. There will be a meet and greet on the 27th with people signing up to ride with groups in different areas. Banquet on the 28th. Always a lot of things going on.

Wow, thats more like it

Thanks, that about covers it... If I already have a non resident Idaho stcker will that cover it.... What is this 43A designation?

Thanks

43A

Each grooming area has a designation. McCall's is 43A. If you make the designation funds come to our area for trail grooming. If not, it goes into a pool of funds that is used, in large part, for emergency repairs throughout the state.

We had a huge uptick in riders last year with poor snow conditions in the Cascades but didn't see an increase in funds. It is very important to designate your area when you purchase your stickers. More riders with no additional funds means less money per mile ridden. We put a lot of local money and volunteer hours into the grooming program. Please designate the areas you are planning to ride in.

Its all good...

Thanks for the info, we'll be there on the 4th...

Any cool Winter Carnival events going on that weekend?

Breweries

All of the breweries also serve food. Parking is somewhat limited.

Broken Horn Brewing Co. 201 S Mission St., McCall. McCall Brewing Co., 807 N 3rd, McCall. Salmon River Brewery, 411 Railroad Ave., McCall.

FOOD is great at McCall brewing but I really like the beer at Broken Horn!!

Night life is great in McCall - no one mentioned Foresters or the Yacht Club for night life. Both are bars and can be fun, should be busy on the last weekend of winter carnival.

If you need sleds worked on... RK Motorworks near Lake Fork does excellent work and they have oil, belts and some parts. If you're looking for gear - Mile High Sports - they are a Skidoo Polaris dealer too and Mountain Tech carries gear, shop work and accessories.

Make sure you stop and get a tail map - there are some good areas south of McCall near Donnelly. Make sure you check the Payette Avalanche reports for conditions... we've seen some crazy temps and a lot of snow - things have been in the moderate to considerable range.

Have fun!

We were in McCall a few years ago during winter carnival and it was a blast at the yacht club after riding! Highly recommend it!

Roger that!

If there is fun to be had, we always add to the entertainment, got a character or two that roll with our crew...
