Team Clutch Disassembly ??

Hey all, new to a team clutch and want to swap helixes. How's a fella go about pulling it apart? Is it really as simple as pulling the 4 torx bolts on the back?
G.

Yep. I usually take a Sharpie and mark the helix and the corresponding hole so that they go back in the same in case they are balanced. Since you are changing it out, the mark will still show you the orientation that the stocker came out.

So no spring loaded dooey's to come flying out and smash me in the choppers?

Nope! Changing springs or shimming is another story though.

You'll think it's locked in place, or that their's a hidden bolt, but it'll come. Just make sure it's spun so that it's not in the reverse cut (hold clutch, spin helix counter-clockwise), and then you can tap and gently pry up if needed.

its simple , just remove the four bolts. I heat the bolts up a little before trying to remove, they are a pain in the a$$, also some people are putting derlin washers in for spring bind up. stock i had one under both ends of the spring , with the helix i am running now i only have one , between the clutch and the spring cup

She's a done deal :face-icon-small-hap Thanks for the tips. Being the sled is new the torx screws came out real easy cheesey, some never-seize on them for the tighten er up process and I should be back in business.
Going from stock 58-40-40 to Carls on the 62-42-40. What should I expect to see? Faster upshift? Better backshift? If my figuring is correct the 62 being a steeper angle should upshift quicker, and the 42 being a bit steeper should hold it's backshift a bit better?

If stock was a 40 degree finish angle then the 42 will upshift faster and back shift slower.
Steeper angle = faster upshift, slower backshift
Shallower angle = slower upshift, faster backshift

Sometimes you may need a handheld impact driver to loosen the torx screws. Also a great trick that SDcoyote passed along is to loosen the belt adjuster just slightly. Then give it a twist and the helix will pop out more easily.

If you are in there, most people do place a delrin washer on either side of the spring. It pays to get the SLP clutch compression tool for this.

The 62 (or even better the 64 IMHO) gives a great launch and really frees up the sled.

Well got it swapped out and on the snow. Ran out of time so only did the helix swap. Still shy of rpm at elevaion, running 8100 with spikes to 8200. Thinking once I get the delrins in it will increase the sprng compression slightly and help out in that regard? Also have the 62g belly busters to install. Will they show a small rm increase vs the stock 62g weight? Haven't got one to compare profiles etc.

What elevation are you riding? If you have a 40 ramp as the other side on the helix give that a try to see if you can get a little more backshift. Put the BBs in and let me know... I have a set coming in the mail.

8100-8200 is good ...you are in the power band. If you are falling off to 7900 you are not in the power band. Keep in mind that if you go lower in elevation from your set up you may over rev a bit...once again falling off the power band.

If you put a new helix in I would spend just a small amount more and change both primary spring and secondary spring and add one Delrin(fancy name for hitech plastic) washer in the cup.
have fun.

Ya going to put in the belly busters and 2 delrins, see what that does, fine tune from there if needed. Feels strong enough for sure, just woudn't mind more if it's "there" is all. Once I try it iwth the weights and delrins installed I'll swap it out to the 40* and see which I like best.
Most of the elevation I ride is fairly low compared to some, unload at 2500 and ride up to 6500-7500 max.

cool man. Keep us posted on how it does. I'm ordering this same kit from Carl's and I'm super curious to see what kind of differences I see.
