Taking 2010 Crossfire 800 to the mountains?

I have a 2010 Crossfire 800 which I bought a Challenger Extreme 2.25" x 141" to go to the mountains. Curious as to whether I should do more than change the clutch weights. Such as changing the Diamond Drive. Will be going to elevations around 9-10K.

I've had friends with crossfire's and gone with them stock but changed the weights for the elevation and I was amazed how well they did even in deep powder with the stock track. They went everywhere my m1000 did. I'd say maybe the only thing that would be worth while is to maybe change to M8 gears, there not to expensive, I think around 250 from BDX.

I've ridden the mountains at 9-12k feet for years with 136's. Change the weights and ride it!

Change the weights for whatever elevation your headed to and go, I wouldnt bother with the gear change. I have rode with a few Crossfires in the Mountains and they do fine. I have a 141 on my M7 the only place you wont go is as high if your are trying to highmark an M series, but guessing by that you bough a Crossfire your not worried about being the highest mark on the hill. Save the $250 and put it into Gas Oil and Hotels and theres one more sled trip paid for. Oh and have fun out there!!

Try 65gr weights, yellow/white primary spring. That should work good for you. The M8's also come with the orange secondary spring and a 36 helix. Not sure what your stock CF clutching is.

Don't change the gears!!! the 60/60 gearing is the same as the m1000 and it gives you more track speed. I never had any belt issues. I used my 2010 cf in the mountains for most of last season. They run awesome. I would say invest in some powder pro or slydog skis. Change your helix to the straight 36 as well.

I have the straight 36 and the weights from my 2010 cf last year for that elevation. If you're interested pm me they're just sitting on the shelf. I'll give you a great deal.

I ran a skinz can.
2.25 powerclaw
and powderpros.

Ditto what Destroyer said. Leave the gears high. The CF needs the extra track speed to make up for length we don't have. I dropped gears last year, worst thing I've done so far on the sled (and belt life is NOT any better) If anything I'd go up a notch.

I love the 141 in the mountains with the powerclaw on it, phenomenal sled.

I think you'll be surprised how well it does. I rode mine which was a 136" x 2" track and got around fine. The track speed really helps keep it moving. Didn't even mind the narrow stock skis, they don't float much but make it really easy to sidehill with the wider ski stance.

I rode my 2010 xf8sp out west last year and was very impressed, the 800H.O. motor still rocks at 9000+ plus, lightweight crank helps it spool up quick, not as much % power loss as other sleds i.mo.

I ran the 58gr weights (I think) which is what the chart called for, I was over-reving 8500-8600rpm, so I would try the next set heavier 6-9000ft. I think its 63g. I left the gearing stock 60/60, and I thought it was right where it should be, good belt life, never blew a single one! I forgot you are running a 2.25 track too, so maybe the 58gr wont over rev as much? If I were you, I'd copy the 9000'+ stock setup for the 2011 XF8SP w/factory installed 2.25 track.

I went everywhere I wanted too, or my abilities would let me, and that was with the 1.6 cobra! The 2.25 will be awesome! You gotta remember the xf141is the exact same sled as the m7 141 with more power basically (footprint wise). Lots of track speed and manuevarable. You'll have a blast.

I also ran a skinz superQ to lose 17lbs of weight, sled ran flawless! Stock 2010 skis aren't that bad either, in fact I was impressed & never felt the need to change them! I'd skip the powder pro's and save the $$$.

Your weights will depend on the rest of your set up. If you run 58's with the cat recommendations for over 9000 ft. you will way over rev. We set up all our new M8's with 65's last year and this year. Had our 2 M8 demos out yesterday at 9500ft running 65 gram weights in the 162 and 66's in the 153. They ran almost perfect 8150ish all day at that altitude. The snow was as deep as you will ever see. If I were you I'd buy one set of adjustable weights from either CPC or D&D so you dont have to pull your weights to go from your altitude to the mountains.

had my 08 800 xfire out there last march. had it set up for 6-9k feet. the house we stayed in was at 8500. but sled ran awesome really never ran out of power with it. only had a 136xx on it. when where ever i wanted and some i didnt want to be when i got there. lol. found out that on of the rollers in the drive clutch was messed up when we pulled it apart to change back in the spring. didnt even notice. my dad was dumbfounded i didn't feel it. messed up the weight too.

love the xfire

Really useful information here, couple of you mentioned a Skinz can...how much louder is that than stock? I have my 2000 ZR 600 piped and its about as loud as no can at all, and dont really want to go back to something that loud, also with the Skinz do you need the Boondocker kit?

The super Q is louder on top, but nearly stock for going down the trail or tooling around the lot. The ultra Q is darn near stock, maybe a TINY bit louder on the top. The ultra I believe is 1/2 lb heavier.

If your going to do skis powder pros really do make a big difference. You don't know how bad the stock skis really are until you put some powder pros on. Also, venting is a great idea. 2 cool make some great vents that are very durable. Throw on a 2 wheel kit from bdx for $25, its worth it. Unless you want to get into some more expensive mods like, rkt clutch kit, slp intake, gauge cage, anti stab, revalving the shocks, pipe and can, etc. just clutch it, maybe a little venting and ride it. Put the skis in the narrowest setting too. Theyre fun sleds and you will have a blast.

I'm gona go with the 2 wheel kit and the anti stab kit and am debating the can but what exactly do you mean by vent it?
