Speedometer reading to high

Took my sled out to break it in today and the odometer reads to high compaired to my gps, speedo said 12 miles gps 11. this was on a trail with no spinning. So if i put on 1200 miles thats 100 miles to many, so at trade-in i will get less for it because of all the extra miles. Is there a place in the speedo that you can change the calibration factor to get it closer to right. I know #3 in the diagnostic is the temp, but which other one of the other numbers is the cal factor? My other 2012 pc is out just as bad as this one.
 
I was ridding with a few other guys on a different brand and at the end of the day they all read way less miles than me, we were all ridding the same breaking in new sleds.
 
funny... mines says 80 mph when I'm going 20...:face-icon-small-win

sure you're not in KM? I've done it before... kind of a facepalm moment.
 
It will spin,

go a steady speed like 40mph and use a gps that shows mph, then you will know.
 
Ya I understand there is always a certain amount of slippage but i know i wasnt ridding hard enough to do any excessive slippage. I cant say exaclly how everyone was ridding there sleds but at the end of the day mine was reading way more miles than everyone else's sleds and it was NOT in kms.

So does mine, whats your point, until you do what I said its a mute point because no one on hear is going to think you rode just like the other guys, and you sound like you are whining because it might be worth less when you want to get rid of it.
 
Mine is the same ...the odometer is showing way high against all the other sleds.i had 100 miles...the doos and yammys were 94 miles.Cats odometer wqs always spot on!

I know I wouldn't tolerate such things on a new sled. I'll take it off your hands before it gets excessive miles on it... :face-icon-small-sho

Honestly...if this is your only complaint, your lucky. GPS is NEVER that accurate as to how much distance you have actually covered anyhow. Do you honestly think that even 200 miles over the life of your sled (if you wern't spinning :lie:) is actually going to affect the value of your sled unless you plan to dump it with very low miles? If thats the case, just sell it now. Its not worth any more money just because you broke it in.

Get over it...

90 miles on a thousand, 180 miles on 2 thousand aint going to sway the price of the sled a dollar.

The condition of the sled is ultimatly the price point unless you got a melon head buying from ya.

I`ve seen alot of beat sleds with 1000-2000 miles I wouldnt buy before some I`ve seen with 2 times that many miles in great mechanical shape.
 
Try this, tell your buddy to go 30mph and you do the same, not very accurate and one sled might hook up better than the other but might tell you something
 
Took it for a ride, at 30 mph my gps said 28.2 so it is not reading right. My M1000 at 30 mph my gps said 29.8 it is way closer.
 
Ok, so my $.02... I'm my car (last years jetta) I set my cruise at 70, on a flat, straight section of interstate. I turn on my gps because I'm curious of how accurate the speedo is. The speed on the gps varies plus, and minus four or five miles an hour, when my car is traveling at a constant rate. I'm guessing my car is not changing speed because both the tach, and the speedo aren't changing. But the number on the gps is. This tells me the gps isn't exactly accurate. And actually on my gps, it tells me how accurate it is. For example, it will tell me my location is within 500 feet. Not bad, but that's almost a tenth of a mile. I think gps is an incredibly valuable tool in the back country, but only as a guide. If you use it as a guide, its great. When you expect it to be more than what it is, it will let you down. I'm not saying the speedo is down to the thousandth of an inch for measuring distance, and I'm not saying it can't be miscalibrated, but its probably fairly accurate. In the grand scheme, it doesn't really matter. Like the one guy said, 90 miles per thousand isn't gonna kill you, its the condition the sled is in.
