Minus the shorter tunnel and different shocks - if one added the spindles, adjustable strap, smaller seat and expert bars.... would you kind of have an expert?

Pretty much, the riser is shorter 4.7” vs 6.5” and the boards are different as well. I’m in the camp of buying sp models as left overs from the previous season and adding suspension. And then adding bar, risers, and grips of my preference. The running boards are not a problem for me. The spindles are lighter on a expert but the same geometry. If you like to tinker an sp could work. If you want out of the box and ready to ride, Just get an expert then

And could get back some cash from your take offs??

4000.00 shocks
1500.00? Track
100.00 Removable flap
80.00 durapro ski rubber

154 SP to X / Expert
I just upgraded the SP shocks to KYB reduced 4.7" riser, installed ice age 165 rails new 3" track up from 154, trimmed snow flap, and added X stickers.

Just getting it back together

If I were buying now I'd buy a Summit SP 155 and put 165 rails under it, put on my suspension of choice, cut the flap, and probably call it a day. When I went to sell it I'd probably put it back to stock and sell the parts separately.
I have a 2018 SP and my wife has a 2020 Expert.

The new spindles do have a different geometry .. If you install a set you will see how towed out your skis are after the install , alignment has to be done , i had to bring each tierod out a 1/4 inch to get my alignment right again.. Geometry must be different , and they use the new ski rubbers .

And actually all 2021 Summits and Freeride use these new spindles.

I would not consider adjusting the toe because the mounting hole is slightly different a geometry change. If the a-arm mount holes and where the ski mounts is different yes.
I still had to use the munster ski bushing savers in my 2021 the skis were way to floppy for me, between my 2019 with the savers and my 2021. I noticed no difference in the side hilling.

I created an "expert" out of a 2018 154 SP.
Ice Age 165 rails and new 165 track. Z-bros T-motion lock out and Duropros. I already owned Fox Evol X shocks and the shorter 145mm riser.

I am into this sled and parts and all for about $5000 less than an expert. It has a warranty through the 2022 season.

Nice. Is there anything to watch out for on older Gen 4’s if one wanted to do the same? Go older for lower entry cost and add all the cool stuff. :)

$1000 for Kyb shocks. Yikes! That’s what you would pay for new fox zero pro coils custom valved and sprung for you from Tom’s snowmobile.

It sounds like it’s a great sled now! $7500 for the sled purchase was a deal
