Slp pipe kit-clutching changes?

I am going to put on the slp pipe kit which includes y-pipe, pipe, and can on to my 12 600 rmk. Kit adds peak 6hp and 4ft/lbs of torque. Slp recommends power commander V as well as one of their clutching kits (Power Shift) and I am wondering how critical it is to install both of these. Any experience with this kit or advice is appreciated.

When installing performance parts, it's not a good idea to mix & match components, or you may end up with a failure, or a poor running sled. A fuel controller is advisable, as far as clutching you could go with a variety of vendors - my personal favorite being Carl's Cycle. Bear in mind that your additional horsepower is useless unless you get it to the snow. Follow the fuel recommendations and tuning instructions for SLP's kit, and you should be a happy camper.

I did the power addiction 13.6 head along with a Carl's cycle clutch kit on my 13 600 and it ran awesome. I think it builds more power than the slp pipe kit and only cost 630 for everything and no fuel controller required. I would recommend it in a second.

So with that power addiction head is it just the added compression that gains hp?

ON my '10 assault 800 I added SLP pipe kit just like you as well as intake and venting without adding the power commander. I only made it 5 miles before burning down my motor. Way too lean. SLP blamed polaris. Polaris blamed SLP. I had to rebuild the motor and add the PC 5 and it runs great. Dont take any chances. Add the fuel controller!!

The added compression increases power but the head is also a much better design. My sled with the head ran awesome and I never had a seconds trouble with it. With just the head on the 600 it does not require a fuel box. The head and clutching do work well especially if you ride higher elevations as you gain back some much needed compression on the 600.

Carl's was the dealer that said they did not gain much with the pipe. Carl's will tell you to go 660 which does run awesome. I seriously debated going 660 on my 13 600 or buying a 13 800. After talking to Chris I bought a 13 800 LE with 1000 miles on it. Ordered the mtntk fix it kit, Carl's clutching, and putting the ggb can from my 600 on it. I really liked the 600 though and it is an overachiever. Rode with 800xp all year and the 600 kept up fine even at 10,000ft.

yeah for me an 800 is way out of my budget, i got my 600 for an awesome deal so i can throw a bit of money to add a couple extra ponys. i am now looking at PAR's Pro Ultimate Combo which includes the slp pipe kit with pvc, as well as heads. so i would also do slp blue/pink primarty springs,not sure on weights and high flow intake. Thoughts on that?

What elevation are you going to be riding with the sled? At 8-10,000 ft I was running 58 gram belly buster weights, stock secondary spring, black polaris 140/330 primary spring, and a 62/38 helix. The whole clutch kit was from Carl's and worked awesome. This sled likes to run at 8200 rpm. I weigh 220 without gear and had I been about 40 lbs lighter or rode 6-8,000ft I would have used the 64/40 side of the twin trax helix. Slp recommends 8250-8350 for peak power so if you ride 8-10k you will be using the same setup as I am. I don't know know anyone who runs the head and pipe so I am not sure how well there fuel map is.

I ride mostly between 4000' and 7000' so I was thinking 13.1 ratio for the head, 58g would probably work then and stock helix I only weight 155lb. I think that will be a good setup. I have emailed brad at PA an he says he has had great reviews on the combo and he specifically programs PCV for that setup.

For the 275 dollars I would run the Carl's clutch kit. There helix is much better than the stock one in my opinion. It launches harder out of the whole and backshifts better. With the head you get a lot more bottom end and midrange power so you need to be able to put that power to the track which the belly buster weights and custom helix do. For your altitude you could run the Carl's helix in the 64/40 position with 60 gram belly buster weights.

I really could do either Carls or slp both would get power to the ground, I save money with slp not doing helix, but if I thought I needed it I could go with Carl's. yeah even 58g or 60g would be sufficient

It is 1400 to do the PAR ultimate pro combo or 1650 to do the Carl's 660. If you are going to spend that much I would spend the extra 250 and gain some big power. 660 produces way more power for only a few hundred more dollars.

I prefer to do basic mods that's when I go to sell it down the road I can go back to stock and sell the parts. I know what you mean through bb 660 I hear is a great performer
