Ski-Doo Clutch Face and belt Cleaning and Adjustment

Curious how many belts you have been through Norona ? Lots of guys blowing them up. Thoughts ?

Zero, 750km on one and 280km on the other sled, belts look new, not saying there are not issues but as I see 60% plus are user issues. Not cleaning belts, not breaking them in properly, not setting deflection, having clickers to high and over reving, hard to control what guys are doing when they just do then of course they are going to blame it on the sled, when belts snap, it is usually from too much deflection- belt too loose. This chain case vid is a perfect example, we had a bunch of guys snap their chain, now there is a chain problem, but guys are not tensioning them, they are just going with what they have always done, new machine means new thinking, read the service manual, get to know the machine, pull things a part and look. It is easy to get on this thing and say hey 4 year warranty just ride, and a lot of guys do....this is a high performance sled, you have to maintain it and they have made it super easy to do, so there is no excuse not to check it but people don't , the internet has also created small things to be huge. I rode 3 days of deep riding at grizzly lodge 25 new G4 not one problem, no belts, just fun, you hear about the bad things but not the good things to balance it out, again not saying that there might be issues with somethings but usually fixable, I just answered a message about a guy ripping around on clicker 3 at 8200 8300 rpm and he is loving it, it is over reving , he has not blown a belt but if he keeps that up he will...I have been riding non-stop and I am blown away how much fun these are, hope guys work with their dealers on any issues and sort them out.

I know guys who are meticulous and lost 2 belts in a day. Also other locals burning through belts. Was just curious what your seeing in your area. Nice sled but typical Doo first year issues.

Curious if you or dealer have added any additional weight to the flyweights?

we are at the stage now to try some stuff...my clutches are on the bench...my secondary spring is 10mm shorter than a new one...same spring they tell me.
no extra weight yet but we need to try that.

yes removed foam as always on doors and around clutch area and felt in clutch cover and between engine and the foam on the back of the cvt down by foot well i cut that plastic out around that small piece of foam, to let the hot air out...

Have any of you guys removed the felt covering the top of the motor? That's all I have left in right now and I'm wondering if I should remove it or not.

ki-Doo Clutch Face and belt Cleaning and Adjustment

Good post Dave, I have removed most of the sound insulating material but not the piece under the hood that insulates the air box. I clean the clutches every couple of hundred kilometers by lightly scuffing the surface with a green scotch pad and blowing the dust out. I wash the new belt in soap and water but do not wipe it with anything such as acetone.(My concern is that acetone may react with the belt compound). I will not cut a hole in the clutch guard hole as I believe that the clutch guard from the factory (less the sound insulation) actually circulates the air better than a chopped one. The belt and chain require adjustment from new to adjust for stretch and wear and maintain the correct belt deflection, easy to do and pays dividends. The chain tension was correct from the dealer. Only 90 km so far and only a trace of belt dust. I have installed the prefilter to keep powder snow out, reduce vent plugging and allow some airflow for underhood cooling. JMO
