Silber Axys: 100LL vs. 110

Just wondering if someone has some insight into pros & cons of running 100LL aviation fuel vs. 110 octane race fuel. It looks like I’ll have to run 25-30% race fuel. I bought some renegade racing fuel that is rated at 110. It looks like they have plenty of other offerings of unleaded race fuels. I’m guessing LEAD is the issue with some race fuels?
Any insight would be great.

There are no cons to AvGas (100LL). Run it.

At the silber boost levels Av gas is the way to go for sure, ZERO issues with 100LL as stated above. (we always put a tad of oil in the tank btw as well) Ive run 100LL 100% with 14 psi for a lot of miles. Over that IMHO we go to VP C16:face-icon-small-coo

Oh and av gas still has lead in it, and thats a good thing, over time high lead will mess with the O2 sensor,if the kit tunes off of that then yes keep a eye on it

If you ride with your wallet in your back pocket, then get 110 race gas. If you leave your wallet at home, buy AvGas. Other than the weight savings, you won't notice a difference between those fuels.

Have not bought 110 in a while but Sunoco was the most stable. When fuel heats up it changes some for tuning but 100ll doesn't change.

about 1/2 a "glug" per tank..:eyebrows:..lol thats the technical term there..lol

now for the real answer, very little I put about 2.5 oz per 5 gallons, always have, always will....is it really needed ?:juggle::juggle: Don't know, don't care, I just like it in there keeps things lubricated nicely.:face-icon-small-coo:face-icon-small-coo

AV gas 100LL MON= 105
Sunoco standard 110 MON=106

Detonation resistance is almost identical, there are some different additives between the two but nothing that is going to cause any real negatives.

most people argue that 100ll isnt engineered for fluctuating loads and high rpm engines (which technically it isnt) but this fuel has proven that it works in MANY high boost high hp apex motors that spin 11-12,000 rpm.

This topic popped up on Turbo Sleds Only FB page and someone posted a chart listing a lot of info. Says the MON rating for AV100LL is 100.


You're saying 105. I honestly don't know and have had great luck with AV but do you have a link for your info?

I believe it has to be 100 so I'm think it could a bit higher tougher regs on plane fuel.

I’ve been running 1 gal of 110 Sunoco to 4-5 gals of non eth 91 on the Silber with 7lb spring in and it has run perfectly. Main reason for the 110 is I don’t have good access to av gas - have nothing against it. 2016 axys at 8-10k ft.

I do not think your going to experience the true benefit of 110 strait with an out of the box silber kit. But.. from my experience on an air to air Bonndocker kit, you can crank the boost way up! Like WAAAAY more than most people run with the caveat of takeing the compressor out of its efficiency range. Gets complicated. If I could afford it, I'd run 110 sunoco all day every day. It tunes so easy, is more stable for tuning, seems to have a much wider window of error on the tuning side.... with it running pretty damn good even if its not running right! Unless your going to run an intercooler and play with 12-18 psi over atmospheric, I'd say 100ll is a more rational option. If you can afford the 110, RUN IT. It is a far superior product in my honest opinion.

Av100ll is guaranteed to be 100 octane. It is usually 101-105. Av burns very clean and resists fouling plugs because in aircraft many times they are rich and fouling a plug is a big problem. Av also has a slightly slower burn rate which will get a slightly less power but only if you measure it on a dyno. It is very small but the slower burn rate effectively retards the timing slightly and adds to it's anti knock capabilities. The vapor pressure of av is less also so at temps below -20 it starts to become a little harder to start. It is a great fuel for turbos and saves money while doing it. Nothing wrong with the 110 race fuel either just more $ is all.

Do not add oil
To the tank with Silber they turn oil injection up with the flash and Silber does not use secondary injectors this is pointless
