Today on my buds wedge cassis polaris, the driver shaft sheared off at the clutch end of the shaft. looks like a bearing went out cause theres nothing there but an empty hole and the end of the shaft looks like it was taken down with a lathe. Its worn to a point. We got the shaft out so how do we fix it. Where do we get the new shaft and how does the bearing go in? Any thoughts or pictures would be great.

Thank you!

Check the swap section for a good used one, or ebay as there's lots on there for wedges. Pull the skid out, open up the chaincase and remove bottom bolt, the driveshaft will come right out. Install new one and replace everything back together again.

Snap a picture of the side that the bearing is missing on. If you ran it long enough to saw the shaft in half I'm betting you have a messed up bulkhead where the bearings mount.

thanks sle*dhead6 for that shaft!

Actually the clutch side of the bulkhead is fine, the bearing is almost no existant, there was one visible ball bearing left lol. But the bearing carrier is pretty good, cleaned it up, but might just replace it anyways. If someone could tell me how to get out and replace the chaincse seal that would be great. Aslo which way that o-ring faces. Thanks again for all the help!!!

you can't save the seals in the chain case if you want to replace the bearing...but if you are careful not to drag the splines of the two shafts across them on removal, you can probably not replace them. Buy the seals and all the bearings at a bearing house not at the dealer...just look them up in the yellow pages...you can get a good timken for much less than the dealer....like six bucks...

Disasembly is like this...

loosen the track and lift it off the ground.
pull pipes if they are in the way
remove 4 bolts on the cover
place container under chain case.
pull cover and drain oil
loosen bearing retainers on LH side of sled
unscrew bolts retaining gears and remove gears
pull two carriage bolts holding chaincase out
wrap splines on drive and jack shaft with masking tape to protect seals
Pull case (if you have two drivers)
If you have 4 drivers remove bearing retainsers on LH side remove skid frame and push track into the upper corner of the tunnel, Pull the shaft to the far left, pull the chain chain case.
Use sockets to press bearings and seals from case and replace. don't reuse seals

Assembly is the same as disassembley excepts....

There are little orange orings on small collars that seal the seal races to the drive and jack shaft. Those little stinkers like to pop out of place on reassembly, religiously inspect and watch them during assembly.
