Am planning on going to the area this year. Is it required to have out of state sled permit for both states? Or register in one state ID or MT good for both states?

You need both.
Make sure you have both on the sled.
Used to be you only needed the state from which you launched the day's ride.
Not so any more.
They are all after their $$$
Like MT is $20 ish for 2 years and UT $3o ish for one year?

You need a trail permit in MT too I believe
Non resident for Montana is $35 for one year
