Registrations going up

There is a bill in the senate to increase registration next year + 50%. This likely will result in nothing more than for $ out of ypur pocket. The closed snoparks likely will not reopen. Grooming will likely not be affected in a positive way.

There are 2 officials responsible for this bill and they have nothing to do with the snowmobiling community. I would encourage jumping on that link and select oppose.

More taxation and nothing in return!

We should come up with a standard response that could be copy and pasted as a comment.

Who wants to write a diplomatic response?

At the end of the day, if this passes, it’s just going to cause more folks to NOT register their sleds. We’re in this problem anyway because of so many people not registering their sleds or coming to ride Washington and not registering.

But, you’re spot on that closed parks won’t reopen. There isn’t an easy answer to this when you look at the reduction in sled registrations over the years and increase in grooming expenses. The $ just don’t work.

Would I willingly pay higher reg fees if the parks re opened and groomers resumed? Absolutely, don’t think that’s the case though.

It’s Washington…..

If you’re on FB, check out the post on pnw snowmobilers. There’s a fair amount of good, bad and interesting info.
Especially the part about the 2 officials pushing this bill. Both have nothing to do with the snomo community.

Ya, saw that too.

I agree they should then, get the sticker people! I don’t ride Oregon
To be legal a SnoPark permit had to be bought for the two states but they honor each other's registrations. I have both states SnoPark permit in my window.

As far as legislators sponsoring the bill you have to go to the party in power as they have the committee chairs that the bill must go through to pass. My observation is that it will probably die in committee by the time it is all said and done. There are too many people not registering that aren't addressed to make people want to support the bill.

Our area is small but we have a SnoPark bought, built, and maintained by our county without a single penny coming from the state snowmobile program. It can be done to open the SnoParks if the snowmobile community really wants it without having to go through state parks.

Washington state is just as crazy as California. The California liberals are bringing a bill today to charge the fossil fuel companies for climate change because the liberal Governor and legislature have caved into the environmental groups and burned the lower part of the state off due to not being able to clear brush,Washington state is bringing a bill to all firearms owners to have liability policies on each gun you own.I think worrying about the registration cost is the least of our concerns

You are right.
Im not sure it’s the least concerning, it is part of the entire picture. I do not think any of the wacky bills, legislation, etc. should be prioritized as not good to really not good. The state is struggling and I believe its all intentional. So many mind numb people. And it is not west vs east anymore either. Easy to point 👉at population centers, but I know the eastern side of the state is playing right along in some areas with dumb voting. Is it bad enough yet!?!? (Not my quote)

Sounds like a "stick it to those sledders" effort. I'm completely fine with using fees to make sledding better, but this sounds like typical WA. It's been a while, but I started riding on Mt Baker. I always paid my dues, but when it gets out of hand, a lot of people are just going to take their chances. I've only been checked once that I can think of. Here in MT, registration is permanent and not too expensive; then it's $20 for a two-year trail pass that mostly goes to grooming and such. I also wish states would be more reasonable about short-term passes. In my case, I'd probably ride ID and WY twice as often if there were a $10 week-long pass. I see WA has a one-day pass option, but it's $25; not many people are coming in for just one day, and the season pass is $50. Oh, and if your state doesn't register snowmobiles, you have to do paperwork to legally ride in WA. The question of at what point people just go elsewhere or avoid paying should be first in mind, but it seems like people in government don't think that way.

If it was to go straight to the groomer and end end result would be more grooming, then ok! Done! I’m good with that. It doesn’t, I’d bet that they could increase fees $100 and come March, grooming would still be limited.

Call DOGE!

Watching the waste that the DOGE group has dug up so far,the waste of our dollars with absolutely no accountability is sickening ,and yet the Democrats keep pushing the wasteful spending on things that came out today. How many millions they spend on trying to LBGTQ animals to prove that a male species can deliver offspring ,no word covers this

I see the GOP opposes the bill and the Democrats are for the increase fee
