Im new to the skidoo world. Im looking at a 2010 summit 146 with an 800 ptek. can anyone give me the pros and cons and maybe a little info on it.

the etec is direct injected, more hp, uses less gas, less oil, smoother running, almost no smoke, and mo money:)

'10 P-tec is a great sled. Probably the best overall Doo ever made (IMO) as far as refinement.
e-tec.....same sled, just injected instead of carbed.

P=tec vrs-E-tec

I have a p-tec and my buddy has an e-tec we ride together all the time and there isn't a nickels worth of difference in fuel consumption and my p-tec actually will out horse his e-tec ~ just sharing a little real world on the snow here~

Direct injection IS nice, crisp throttle response, easy to start, won't flood when you roll over the sled...but it comes at a cost...like $4500 over the ptek...the ptek is proven and solid, and you can still repair and tweak a lot more yourself without an engineering degree. If you want to save a chunk of ching it's a good choice.

+1

Demo'd both last January at a Ski Doo VIP Demo Day, PTek felt a little stronger in the mid rpm range to me and considering the price difference ended up purchasing a Summit SP with electric start so starting is never an issue. Great sleds.

However, if you ever want to add a turbo the ETek is the way to go.....but that is an entirely different topic.

Bought two 2012 xp's

Agree with all the previous comments. Glad to hear real-life opinions re: seat time on the Etec vs. Ptek. I rode a t-pro last year and for less than I had in that, i was able to buy two 12' xp's. $7500 each/otd. I couldn't pass it up. I know the Xp well and feel comfortable with handling, power curve etc. I was disappointed to learn that the 12' still has the damn Secondary stuck to the shaft instead of being floated. not a big deal considering the price, reliability, HP.

Enjoy the sled!

Thanks for the info guys. P-tec it is!

My P-tek is awesome to work on but my 12 got me more places alot easier than my 09. I don't know if my motor is getting week but I've redone the clutching all the SLP goodies and it wont keep up with the Etek im just glad I didnt buy an 11 and waited for the 12 motor. Great sleds I've heard on a few other threads that you can get twice the miles out of an Etek because they run that much more efficient. Either way it all counts on how much fun you have on it

2 more thoughts..... If you are thinking of a turbo,,,,,, E-tec all the way.. Not as much money to port a P-tec. Get a good port job on a P-tec,,, not a bad way to go.

ya man ptek all the way. i ride with 3-4 guys all the time with etecs sleds and my 2010 ptek tears them apart in the steep and deep and drag racing. i dont care what any dyno says there is either a major power loss in the etecs clutching or something or the just dont make the power they claim.

Maybe I'm just a 50 year old has been, but E-START is must have on a p-tek. Rolling your sled is a givin.

I am not fifty yet and this is the first sled I have had e start on and it is the cat meow. Mine is a 2010.
