How many miles are you guys going until you freshen the top end? I used to get 2,000 on my old 98 700 running race gas and 10-12 psi.
Previous owner pulled it down at 800 miles and replaced pistons and rings as preventative. Sled now has 14XX miles so a bit over 600 since top end was done.
Are you guys checking compression as a guide?
Thanks, MC

I had a 16 with 1700 miles I just sold running 5psi riding from 3000-7000ft. Turbo was added at 800 miles. Compression was 125 in both cylinders at 500ft above sea level and didn't drop the whole time I had it. I have talked to guys who had 2500 miles on the stock pistons.

The way I see it is do a leak down test every couple hundred miles, soon as you start to see the numbers change its time to refresh the top-end!!
I am around 2000 boosted pump gas miles running 50-50 av to 94 and its still under 2% leak down.

When you say leak down test are you referring to a compression test or something else?

Definitely a different test, just search for leak down test and something should populate.....there have been some good threads on this awhile back.

Thanks yeah I have been told by several that they survive well if running properly.

Changed mine out at 1600 miles and they had some wear but would have made it another season. Went with the mtnk kit instead of factory pistons and its still running strong and the pistons are much lighter. It was a very smooth running setup. Sled had a mtntk turbo kit which was amazing.
