For those looking into a less expensive option we have found the Oxbow Renegade radios to be a great value. We are now offering these to our customers.

They communicate with all FRS radios on the market, come with a backpack strap clip and have a range up to 5 miles depending on terrain. I've personally tested ours and with my wife in the house and me out in heavy woods I can still communicate with her at 6/10ths of a mile.

Simple yet effective.... IN STOCK

Is there an option for a shoulder mic on these? I have found that having the radio attached to a backpack strap, and exposed like it is shown in the picture, cuts the battery life pretty short. . . especially if the batteries are Lithium. If a shoulder mic is used one could put the radio in the backpack.

Timbre, I just ran this radio for 3 days. Never charged and still have 2/3 battery.

Not having to run a cord into the pack is one of reasons I decided to replace my BCA2 with this radio.

As for OXBOW offering it as an option, no. However, it has the standard plug in for a hand held mic/speaker like this. Amazon product ASIN B08HLSTZMP

So for some guys that have the BCA vest, here is an option to attach the Oxbow. I used the GoPro wrist mount, removed the hinge mount and attached a “pinch mount” with 3M. Works perfect.

If ordering a mic, beware that there is not just 1 size of 2pin mics.
Midland has their own pin spacing, others such as Kenwood etc. have theirs.

Any more testing on these radios for weather resistance and range?

I would like something like this for work when working with a crew of people out in the woods, riding, plus having them in the trucks when convoying to ride.

Nope, it's raining here today....we've got about 15 miles of riding in this year.

Here are some examples of the different pins. The one commonality is the pins size, one is 3.5mm and one is 2.5m..
I wish they would have made one standard...Screenshot_20210118-205424_Samsung Internet.jpgScreenshot_20210118-205348_Samsung Internet.jpgScreenshot_20210118-205317_Samsung Internet.jpgScreenshot_20210118-205251_Samsung Internet.jpgScreenshot_20210118-205232_Samsung Internet.jpg

I know there are different ones I'm just saying when I go and try to buy one they don't necessarily tell which set up you have. So looks like spacing is important as well.

This is the one I have that came from Rugged Radio.

I have had one and used for about a month. I have had it high on the backpack like your top picture just above the chest tie strap. The annoying thing i have come to find out is there it rubs on my helmet and turns the volume down. On the right side the volume knob is towards the helmet. I didn't notice it at first but the last couple weeks it has caught my attention. I moved it down on the strap at the end of the weekend after the re-charge and haven't wore it yet to see if I will like it lower.

Otherwise it has been a great radio and no shortage of battery power and charges quickly.
