Need Info On Loading Sled Onto Sled Deck On Lifted Truck

Hey guys. So I have a guy building me a sled deck and I have a 2006 Dodge Mega Cab with a 6" lift and 37" tires. He is building me a deck with an 8ft deck, and a 1ft dovetail. He estimates the dovetail at a 30 degree angle. He is building a 10 ft 2 piece ramp and I want to know if anyone has experience with loading sleds into big trucks. Any pictures?

Thanks!

I have a 2009 Polaris Assault with a 155" track, if that makes any difference.

Get a long run at it. Stabilize your speed. Little shot of gas when your track is on the ramp. When you can't see the truck cab anymore lock the brake hard.
The first one is easier then the second one, you'll only have 4' wide to land. Good luck!

Might want to think about a 12' folding ramp?

I have a f-350 with an 8 inch lift and 38's, my deck is about the same as yours but my ramp is a total of 11 feet. it works perfect and have never had a problem loading up. you should be fine.

i just have a long ramp (11ft), and with super glides on the ramp i don't need to get up too much speed to get up top. a bit scary the first few times tho when you can't see the deck of the truck on the way up!! make sure its level and the longer the ramp the better!!!

it'll be fine don't go to fast, it will take a few tries to figure out the right speed. just dont try to load a short track, those are scary to load because they wheelie alot and tend to fall off the side or on to the other sled on the deck.

Yea it's not bad. I had 6" lift and 37" tires on my dodge 3500 to. 8' ramp 1' beavertail. It was steep but loaded fine. Just take it really slow the first few times even if you don't make it on the deck to get a feel of it. I am going up to 8" lift and 38" tires now and building a new deck 2' beavertail 9'6" ramp and I know it will load easy.

And don't take a huge run at it! That's how you land on your cab or hood! I start with my skis at the edge of the ramp, a bit of throttle is all it takes, granted I have a 162" but it goes up like nothing.

I have an 8' ramp with a 14" beavertail and have no problems with my stock height ford and I just drive on with a little momentum at the bottom and an even throttle the whole way up. I need no more then a sled length for a run at the ramp, and rarly need the break.

With your long ramp and dove tail, your ramp angle shouldn't be much different then mine.

my deck has a 14 inch beaver tail and a 9 foot ramp, my pickup is not as tall as yours but i wouldnt hesitate driving up the ramp if it was 6 to 8 inches taller. i think the key is to put low pro glides on the ramp so the skiis dont come to a screeching halt on the ramp. it was the best single improvement i made to my deck, and using the low pro glides the ramp still goes in the storage track under the deck.

Why do you want that much lift in a truck you want to use a sled deck with? Sounds like a generally bad idea to be brutally honest....

Need to ask why the beavertail? With a longer ramp, there is really no need for one. So much easier to access the bed without one IMO.

the beaver tail on mine makes it easier to store the ramp, it stores just above the cross bar on the beaver tail under the deck

I don't know about you but i've got 1 truck and drive it 12 months of the year, I might use my deck 15 days in a year max? I'm not going to adapt my truck for the deck, I will adapt the deck for the truck. I have 8" lift and 38" tires, I am happy with it. I just use a 2' beavertail with 9'6" ramp and the deck works fine. Loads like nothing. There is no problem using it this way. And with the big lift and tires, the chance of the truck ever getting stuck trying to get somewhere sledding is pretty slim :D

You'll be fine, I've loaded my sled onto a chev duramax with a one peice ramp( couldn;t have beem much more then 6-7 feet). Oh the truck had 6" and 35's

ummm....maybe it's his only truck....did you ever think of that???:face-icon-small-dis

Ya that's exactly what I thought of....why would you want such a monstrosity if you plan to use it for applications other than pimping it down main street. Not a big deal do whatever you want....but I just think it's funny that every week someone asks this question...I have X huge lift with X huge tires, then I put my sled deck on and the ramp is steep....no kidden?

it's the law of inverse propotions....the taller the truck, the steeper the ramp;) i drive a lifted truck, with tall tires, and i use it off-road often...my solution was to have my ramp lengthened, and i didn't even need to ask any questions...just seemed like common sense..:beer;

big trucks

I've raced tough trucks, raced pro mud boggers for 15 years, people that look at a lifted truck and say were just cruising the streets looking cool or whatever " just simply don't understand" it's as simple as wanting to trick out your sled. when i look at a new truck at the dealer i think man that would look good with a lift. people that are so fast to insult someone's lifted rig should simply keep there mouth shut. here's mine 8" and 40's so go put that in your pipe and smoke it! see i could have just really bad slamming.
