Finally getting some snow getting my 13 xm etec ready for the year, need to get the old fuel out of the tank, my electric pump i usualy use took a Sh...

Any one have any easy methods of getting the fuel out of these things.

Also just good fresh fuel on top once drained or should a guy use a bottle of heat also.

Thanks

Just completed this job last weekend. Here is what worked for me:

1. Lower the trailer tongue all the way to the ground so the sled is facing downhill.

2. I purchased a small fuel siphoning kit from the auto parts store. It has a hand primer so no need to get gas in your mouth. Costs $5.00.

3. It took about 30 minutes to siphon 5 gallons of gas. A bigger diameter hose obviously would have made job take less time.

Good luck.

I use a 4 foot piece of air hose. Drill a hole 1 inch from end. Stick a blow gun in hole and other end of hose in tank. Blow through hole while close to recovery tank. It will create a vaccume and empty the sled.

Jiggler Siphon

You can pick up a brass "jiggler" siphon at your local hardware store. Comes with a 3/4" hose x 6 1/2' long. Drop it in your tank, jiggle the hose and it creates the siphon begins, easy and cheap, less than $10.
I carry one in my sled all the time.

I am going to "jiggle" my way to free gas like Dirty Steve and Newfie. Tired of paying for it. Hopefully I can smell the race gas and only steal the good stuff.

Lift rear of sled in the air. take an old short piece of garden hose stick one end of the hose into the tank and the other end into an empty gas tank sitting on the ground. Take a blow gun using one hand to seal the gas tank the best you and the other to operate the blowgun pressurize the gas tank until fuel starts to flow in the empty can.

Remove cap, tip sled on side in weed covered area of driveway. Enjoy weed free area on driveway next spring.

So........... you're saying it was a waste of diesel to run the blade on the tractor down the side of the driveway? Wish I could be in the know like a few of you guys here on SW haha. Always drawing the short straw... :mmph:

And I have a cheapo autozone pump primer siphon in the shop that works well.

Thanks for all the reponces guy's. I could only get a gollon or two out using brew's method i think ill try the combo of having the rear raised in the air and pickup on of those jiggy pumps.

Anyone know if it is safe to throw a bottle of heat in an etec, they r so sensative to everything else wasnt sure if it was a good idea or not, my dealer's anser was " I cant imagine it would hurt anything" had not interest in actually looking into it for me

Heat

If you have ethanol in your fuel the heat is not advised, just more alcohol. If you do not have ethanol in your fuel then the heat, (only the red container, isopropyl) would help if you have any water in your fuel. A small amount will not hurt.

You just put the end with the brass ball in the tank that you want to pull from, jiggle it up and down and the ball pumps it up and out. The ball end must be submerged in fuel. It takes about 10 shakes to get it primed and flowing. It flow about 3 gallons a minute.
