Looking at buying an older wedge Frankenstein and have some questions

J
Hey guys. I found a 199? Sport/Super Sport listed close by me and it looks like a complete frankenstein project from the pics. Guy has not responded to me yet but I want to get some info.

He listed it as a 1996 Super Sport 488. I've found that the 1997 was the 1st year of the 488, so the year is in question right off the bat.

The seat covering has XLT printed on it, and I can see it has xtra-10 sticker under the seat rear of tunnel. Ok. no big deal.

The hood has XC sticker on it, no big deal, stickers don't matter.

So I guess long story short, what should I be looking for to help identify this motor, clutch, suspension, etc etc?

Manufacture date on the side of the tunnel. Likely says 1996, making it a 1997 m/y. Looks like a 488 to me.

The sticker you can see on the recoil cover in photo #3 should be an engine serial number. You should be able to get the engine year and size from that.

The nose cone colors seem to match the seat, skis and trailing arms better than the hood. Thinking someone replaced the hood at one point. 488 has been around for quite a while so likely not the best indicator of sled year.

Guy has still not responded to my messages, so he must not want to sell. Oh well. Thanks for the replies anyways guys. I guess I'll update the post if/when I get to look at it.
