Long track sleds on 10’ open trailer?

Hey All,

Getting back into sledding after being out for 10 years. I will likely be buying a 151- 165 track length sled. I’m considering buying an open deck tilt aluminum trailer that has a 10’ length deck plus 1.5’ V. Is that tilt trailer going to be too short for long track mountain sleds?

No They will hang off the back a little bit. But shouldn't be a problem !!!

An 8x10 with a salt shield makes a shorter trailer. Newer sleds with reverse don't always need ridden off the front plus a solid shield on the front provides more protection.

Thanks! I was able to find an aluminum 8x10’ plus a small V trailer in good shape for $500 but wanted to make sure it would fit mountian sleds before I bought it

Thanks for the confirmation! It’s not a drive off as of now but I was thinking of adding a set of caliber v front ramp shields the protects the sleds from salt/slush and serve as a drive off ramp

Make sure you have enough tongue weight.

Had a little rodeo ride with an 8x10 aluminum and two sleds, 144 and 159 that self ejected on the icy highway. Long story, but make sure the sleds are where they need to be when secured down.

good call out… I figured having the sleds pulled all the way forward (front of the sled at the front of the trailer) would ensure there is plenty of tongue weight because the majority of the weight of the sled is at the front end/engine bay area

Here’s a pic of the trailer with a 94 Indy on it. It looks like the engine bay area of a sled is in front of the axle giving it enough tongue weight from what I can tell

You’re talking about traction cleats for the snowmobile track to hook up to so it can drive up the trailer correct?

No. Caliber sells a traction latter it's like a rope latter that you hook to the back of the trailer. So if it's solid ice your track will grab and get you onto the trailer with out having to get a run at it !!!

Picked up the trailer earlier today and it’s actually not a tilt trailer. It has a ramp in the rear. The ramp can also be used for the front but I think I’ll still put the Caliber plastic V salt/slush protector on the front

Dumb question of the day… when a sled is said to be 11’ long, is that measured from the front most part of the skis to the rearmost part of the snowmobile?

Since it's a Floe trailer, get the Floe salt shield/ramps. They work very well and are designed to fit those trailers.
Generally the length is the overall length of the sled, so yes, your sled will hang off of the back of the trailer a foot.
