Khaos 800, Is the 800 still valid?

Spend the extra money and get the 850, you’ll get it back when you sell it.

My 850 has been better in every way than my 800.

If u want to save a few thousand $$$, the 800 has a great bottom end and isn't a slouch up top.
Sure the 850 will outclimb it, would be crazy if it didn't.

I committed to a 2020 800 Khaos. I'm cheap and opted for the $3400 off option.

The Khaos is known for playful front end lift. The 800 with its light crank and quick revving is very suited to this style of riding and the motor is actually lighter than the 850 so again great for playful riding. I would not want an 800 in my 174 though.

Slap a pipe set up on it and it’ll be an 850 for 3-4K cheaper haha

I did this and my 800 did run good but I believe those motors don't like 8300+ rpms and that is where they sing with the pipe. I think harmonics at those rpms are hard on the motor and clutch. (just from failures I've seen)

Im looking at picking up a 2020 800 Khaos. Are the latest 800's different than the 16-19's? Hows the reliability of this motors? Is it worth buying a 800 when the 850 is all the rage? Thanks

Personally I would go 850, I LOVE MY 2020 KHAOS 850!! The 800 is a strong motor but so is the 850.

Having owned both, here’s my opinion. The 850 is clearly a better motor. Has more pull and a lot less vibration, climbs better and I get stuck less on the 850. It just makes mountain riding better. But I also loved the 800 before the 850 was around. The 800 is a solid motor with good reliability. If you can save several grand and you’re ballin on a budget, then get the 800. If the $ doesn’t matter then get the 850. I def wouldn’t suggest getting the 800 and then spending a bunch trying to get more hp out of it. If that’s the goal then just get the 850.

Right now I’m struggling with this as well, but more from a financial perspective. Still trying to figure out where the break over point is for the 850 (initial increased cost & higher resale value) vs the 800 (cost savings, performance mods, & resale total).

Boost might be the exception.

The 800 can be boosted on a budget and the tuning is dialed. (Re $15-$1800 used turbo kit)

Boost will never “pop” like naturally aspirated though.

Just my $.02: if the price difference means a lot to you and you've been happy with the power of 800s you've rode, go for the '20. On the other hand, if you can see yourself piping it, swapping heads, and so on, just bite the bullet and go for the 850. The turbo idea is a good one – that'll leapfrog the 850 – but if (like me) you haven't rode a turbo sled, it's hard telling if you'll like it or not. If the prices are close at all though, an 850 Khaos with QD2 and the new track is likely to be quite a step up from a '20 800...
