Is this zr700 cylinder and piston usable??

I was wondering if this cylinder off my 2000 zr 700 is still usable? I have 1 new one on the way and was just looking for an opinon on this one. Should I get a different one or do you think I can run it? Previous owner leaned out oil pump. The scoring on the walls is pretty minor in my opinion. What about the piston? I will be replacing both pistons but I'm wondering if I could keep this one as a backup? It's a wiseco. Thanks guys/gals.

Yes, I would re-use the cylinder, a touch with a hone would probably take those scratches right out. If you don't have access to a hone a little emery cloth would work too. Work it back and forth not up and down until you have removed any high spots. As for the piston, I would throw any Wisecos in the recycle bin. I have had too many give me trouble. But it also doesn't look that bad. Same trick with the emery cloth. SPI pistons are a good, reasonably priced replacement. Good luck. I have a good used cylinder, two brand new sleeves and several core cylinders if any one is interested.

I decided to get another new cylinder. Got one from countrycat and I will be running spi pistons too. I will probably keep cylinder for backup. Thanks for your opinion.

Probably a good choice. But as Idcatman1 said, I would have run the cylinder and replaced the piston/rings.

Very good backup spare cylinder.

That was just typical marks from a reving too much on a cold engine. Not a seize but close to it. Nothing wrong with the jug. A touch of acid, a little hone, and it's good to go.

I would have some big bills if i replaced a cylinder like that all the time, My 720 topend looked much much worse then that, it was the weiscos that were groving them selves and trying to eat my cylinders. Iam with Idcatman1 weiscos dont hold up well at all, I have been running SPIs for years with no problems.

Well I have a new one already ordered. Better safe than sorry I guess. I will have brand new top end (new cylinders, spi pistons, and cometic gaskets) now so no worries. I just have to make sure I get the oil pump set properly.

There is a set line on the pump. Also I would change the SPIs out around 3500-4000 miles anything else after that is a ticking time bomb, we have pushed one of our F7 drag/trail sled to 7000miles before it ate a cylinder.

That looks like a cold scuff from tight pistons...happens on Wisecos if you don't warm up enough. Lubrication failure would have a major seize typically on exhaust side. I wouldn't run a different cylinder...clean up with muriatic acid and cross hatch with emory cloth. Or just hone after the acid. If you keep a piston as a back up, make sure it's the same brand. Cast and forged pistons generally weigh differently and running them mixed is not good. If you already have a new cylinder, keep that one as a back up...still just fine. I've run much worse without issue. And make sure the ports are clean...no metal on them.
