ignition coil or stator or tps

I have a 2008 m1000 stock i was in cooke city all week and it ran great on wednesday coming down the mountains it started running little rough and stalled out and would start or spark for ten min, then when started in ran great all the way back to the hotel, about 4miles and then stalled out again and wouldnt start again until cooled down again, no codes were thrown and had the fuel pump tested and good psi at the injectors, local mechanic there said could be a coil problem or stator issues, iam confused if coil issue because when it is running it runs great and doesnt miss, but the coils dont throw codes if their faulty so...just looking for advice before i start digging on the engine

there is easy ways to test your stator on the sled by unplugging and checking with a meter..if i had the wire colors and values i would give them to ya but i have only the 2007 specs..check all your grounds as well and it doesn't hurt to break apart all your electrical plug connections and re attach with dielectric grease smeared in them..

On the checking the stater issue i wonder if when the stater is cooled if it will give a normal reading or show that it is bad. I mean usually when there cooled out they run ok then as it warms they start to run erratic.

Many cat tech just will send the stator out to be rewound even if they test ok when dealing with ignition irregular spark.

I had one stator go out and it did the same thing yours is, and another stator went out i couln't get rmps over idel 1700.

Yep, i tested mine cold and the ohms readings where fine and set it buy the fire and got it quite warm and no ohms. the winding expands just enough to not make contact.

So you guys think a stator issue more than a coil issue? I agree that it will prob read fine cold but il test it first then prob pull it and test it hot next to a woodstove

or a trouble/halogen light..put next to it on the sled with the recoil off...

My '08 M8, did the same thing last year in the Snowies. Replaced the stator and thought it was good to go. Next time on snow it did the same thing.

So sitting there with the hood open, decided to try unplugging the tether harness and it fired right up. While sitting there idling, plugged the tether harness back in and it died.

Ran the rest of the day with the tether harness unplugged and it ran like a champ. Replaced the tether switch after that and haven't had a problem since.
