Over the weekend I attended the Idaho State Snowmobile Association annual convention in Island Park where they presented the latest and greatest threat to Snowmobiling in West Yellowstone and Island Park, and most specifically on Mt. Jefferson. Every one of us who rides in IP needs to be fully aware of the reality of this coming to pass in the next 69 days! The Idaho State Snowmobile Association and their LEGAL DEFENSE FUND is our best and most effective counter to this threat. PLEASE consider supporting them in STOPPING this Anti-Sled organization from CLOSING OUR AREAS!!

Seen this on FB. Great vid and nice to have you on board! Now lets talk poker runs as they are a blast and raise money for good things.
he he he
Oh, I know ALL about Poker Runs!
Played that game for YEARS when I was manufacturing speed boats down in Havasu!

Is there actually a SNOWMOBILE EQUIVALENT of this?

the same people who want to protect the wildlife habitat buy the ranch land in the valleys and build houses every quarter mile where there used to be herds of elk and deer and antelope. I'm sure they would think its fine if they put up a ski resort too. there are virtually no animals in the woods at 8000 feet in the winter. these people can hike and bike and all kinds of **** in the summer when theres actually animals being disturbed, but thats fine because they like it.

If you are a prime example of the "Mountain Segment" that has not been involved with clubs and didn't appreciate the value of the organizations, what is the key message that woke you up?
Can that be bottled up and distributed elsewhere to help keep the numbers and voices up where it counts?

Personally, I have had frustrations in the past with our state organization so I put my efforts into our local club. Helping to building a groomer shed, rebuild our warming shelter, cutting firewood for our main shelter and 3 satellite shelters, trail maintenance, holding officer positions and fundraising. On the fundraising front, I have aquired a grant through my employer for our SAR segment in our club to offset costs involved with purchasing equipment. I also started a movie night in 2011 where we rent a local theater for the night and show sled videos and raffle off prizes donated by tremendous folks and businesses. I can't think of a better event that gets everyone jacked up to ride but also to be part of the solution. Our event for this year is next week. Hope it goes well.

Be nice to get a petition we can all electronically sign against this happening! Such BS to do this kind of crap on their way out of office.

Well, it went like this.
In the middle of summer I posted this video and it garnered me an invite to come and speak at the ISSA convention.

On Saturday Night they had a Legal Defense Fund presentation where they laid out all of the major battles that are ongoing in Idaho.
Those they have Won, Lost and are fighting.
That was real eye opener for me personally.

It has been my experience that with Mountain Riders, they simply don't give a damn about a riding area closure UNLESS it is THEIR closure.
Trying to rally this segment of the Sled Community behind a closure cause has always UTTERLY FAILED every time I have tried over the years.

"If it doesn't directly affect ME, I don't care" is very much the general attitude I have come to expect.

Mountain Riders are a notoriously independant bunch, and not prone to large organized group membership or large organize group activities.
Club Membership, State Association Membership or National Organizational Membership being prime examples.

Having spent Friday Night and all day Saturday talking to the Convention attendees, the #1 issue they raised to me is LACK OF INTEREST IN JOINING.

Every club I spoke to complained that they are losing members and contracting in size.
Same for the State.
Same for National.

The average age for Club members is climbing, the average size is declining.
So we end up with Fewer Older guys.

So the presentation I was going to make was on HOW TO RECRUIT new members into all three levels of membership.
Local, State, National.

to be perfectly honest, given the current pollical situation in the Whitehouse, I seriously doubt a "petition" would have any impact whatsoever.
If this happens, I expect it will be a Vindictive EO issued by a Lame Duck President.

On April 8, Stephen Capra, executive director of Missoula-based organization, Bold Visions Conservation, will share his vision for a new national monument for Madison and Gallatin national forests. Capra has led projects that created two national monuments in New Mexico—Rio Grande del Norte and Organ Mountain Desert Peaks.

The presentation will be held at the Bozeman Public Library’s community room on April 8 at 6:30 p.m., according to a press release from Bold Visions Conservation

“The Yellowstone Ecosystem shelters populations of iconic, threatened wildlife like grizzly bears, wolves, bison, wolverines, and bighorn sheep,” Capra stated in the release. “But it’s becoming ever clearer that Yellowstone and Grand Teton parks are not big enough to assure long term survival of these species.”

The monument would protect 1.6 million acres of Madison and Gallatin national forest lands, including land around Island Park, Idaho. “Bold Visions hopes to convince President Biden to set aside this national monument,” the release stated.

What is a National Monument?

National Monuments are a means of protecting public lands and wildlife. The distinction is that a Monument is protected by the President, and not Congress. The Antiquities Act is a means US Presidents have used to protect public lands such as the Grand Canyon, Grand Tetons, and many others across America. George Bush created the largest ocean Monument in the Pacific during his tenure. The key to any Monument declaration is a solid management plan. In the case of our proposed Monument, we want to make clear that it is wildlife focused, protecting a vital wildlife corridor as well as many threatened and endangered species, including wolves, grizzlies, bison, and wolverine.

This would be the first monument of its kind, created with a focus on wildlife and to ban trapping and killing of predator species. Many ocean monuments have been designed to protect fish species and ban commercial fishing.

This is part of Bold Visions Conservation’s commitment to protecting public lands so wildlife can thrive!

The Madison-Gallatin Monument would effectively expand the Greater Yellowstone area's protection!

Dear Members,

Bold Visions Conservation has taken the lead in creating a new National Monument along the Montana-Idaho border protecting the Gallatin Range. Our goal is to create the first Monument dedicated to wildlife. Meaning a Monument that does not allow trapping or the killing of any predator species. The area remains one of the most important wildlife corridors in the lower 48, and we are working to protect more than 1.6 million acres of land. The Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council, supports this proposal as do some key conservation groups that will announce soon. They are part of the important connection of traditional peoples to the land and wildlife.

The two major National forests in our proposal are the Custer-Gallatin and the Caribou-Targhee. Both currently have shameful forest plans that are opening them to logging and excessive off-road and snowmobile usage.

We have mapped the area and written the biological reports mentioned. The time has come to protect this area to protect it from industrial logging, road construction, and the invasion of off-road vehicles.

Please help us protect a vital unit of Yellowstone National Park and essentially grow the park to more than 3.8 million acres, allowing wolves, grizzlies, bison, and other wildlife species to thrive.

This Monument is a way to protect vital keystone species and stop the push by wildlife agencies, trappers, and trophy hunters to control wildlife in Montana and Idaho.

None of this comes cheap, but we are working to educate communities, members of Congress, and the President with staff in Washington, D.C.

PROTECTING MONTANA AND IDAHO PUBLIC LAND

If we work to allow wildlife to thrive, then we must protect the lands they inhabit. Protection of lands comes in many forms: National Parks, Wilderness Areas, National Monuments, State Parks, etc.

Having worked on many of these landscape protections, it is vital that we focus on protecting lands so wildlife can thrive! In Montana, Senator Daine’s, Congressmen Zinke and Governor Gianforte are no friends of public lands. Zinke, while self-dealing when he headed the Interior, has never supported public lands. During his tenure at Interior, he never saw a drill rig or mining project he did not support.

Daines' voting record on the environment is closer to zero. He has publicly declared his desire to slaughter wolves and open a killing season on grizzlies, to remove all Wilderness Study Areas and open lands to snowmobiles and off-road vehicles.

Governor Gianforte has illegally killed a wolf near the Yellowstone border and allowed it to suffer in a trap for days. Gianforte also loves trapping wildlife.

We can and must do better if wildlife is to thrive.

We are building the coalitions needed to succeed and make land conservation a powerful wildlife story. We must work to protect vital areas that will expand Yellowstone’s boundaries.

There are many such areas in Montana, and Idaho thin rural areas that continue to push trapping. If we cannot get the Fish, Wildlife and Parks and other key agencies to stop the madness of trapping, then we must protect lands and not allow this mid-evil torture to continue, we must learn to co-exist with wildlife and not let these powers control our public lands. These are Americans public lands and America does not support Trapping.

Be a voice for change, and help us make a difference in the protection of vital lands and wildlife!

It's a constant battle, and we never gain access, only lose it. This plan is pretty extreme, but so was Bears Ears, and it went through (twice). This would be absolutely devastating to locals for numerous reasons. Snowmobiling is my absolute favorite thing to do and it would just be gone forever.

the ONLY reason I give this threat any legitimate credibility is because Pres. Biden is a LAME DUCK PRESIDENT who HATES TRUMP and might just sign off on it to spite the next Admin.

I've been a member of Blue Ribbon Coalition for years (and also the National Motorists Assoication). I will join this Idaho group too.

Okay... so I tried. These Idaho Snowmobile club guys need to get their act together. First, there is NO email address to contact them. I DO NOT use the phone. There is no way to contact them on Facebook. I have tried to donate to their legal defense fund AND join their club and the transaction fails every time. AND to make it even worse, they use that idiotic "ReCaptcha" crap that basically is free labor for Google and I don't play that game either.

I will make this offer -- if somebody from that club sees this, contact me here and I will fix your website FOR FREE and keep it running. I've only done this sort of thing professionally for about thirty years so I'm probably qualified. Otherwise, best of luck. I sent a link to this thread to BRC in the hopes they can step and help as well.

Whats your take on how they represent the SNOWMOBILING community.
Is this another organization that I should be supporting?

BRC isn't just OHV (SxS, Jeeps, quads). They've been involved in the Yellowstone fight for years, over all the eco-freak rules and trying to shut down snowmobiling inside the park. We're currently stuck with guided tours on rental sleds (must be four strokes), but it's better than nothing.

Back in the day, when I was big into 4 Wheeling my Bronco, I was a BRC member.
Just never knew they were in the Sled game??
I associate them with Off Road Vehicles of the sort that have RUBBER Wheels!
