How reliable is the 2009 800 Summit X 163

I'm looking at a 2009 Summit X 163. How reliable are these out of the box? This one has a can, clutch work and venting. What modifications are recommended for these sleds to make them reliable and really run well in the deep powder? If anything?

I would do a set of pistons every 2000-3000 and maybe re pack the cranks bearings and enjoy it. I know a lot of people harp on the reliability of the xps but I ride with a bunch of them and they have been pretty solid. I was out with two buddies that had 08s and between them they have over 5000 miles and both have been flawless.

The '09s are pretty reliable IMO. I don't know why people suggest replacing top ends on XPs so early as there are very few failures related to the top end issues. Cranks are the main problem, and if you're not having problems (usual signs are blown belts, excessive vibration and grease coming out of the PTO seal) then just ride it. I had an '08 with 3'000+ miles and zero engine problems and now have an '09 with nearly 3,000 miles. All miles are in the mountains with lots of WOT, but I also make sure that my clutching is dialed (DJ Kit) and I also maintain my clutches as necessary to keep it running cool as can be.

Two must do mods:
DJ clutch kit - http://www.mxzx-revzone.com/
Floating QRS (secondary) mod - http://www.floatingQRS.com

These both help the clutch and belt life immensely. Doo's are notorious for their terrible stock clutching. These mods fix the problems and will help your XP rip!!!!

1300 miles on mine and only on my second belt, but i have a team converted jackshaft and secondary. i also did the track port mod to cover up the giant track port/cheese grader, she climbs like a mtn. goat now without digging a 3 ft. trench

Track port mod is a must. Felkers all the way.
