How much for a new 800 pro engine?

Just wondering how much a new engine is, a good friend just got a bill for $7000 cdn what seems to be a lot. I think they rebuilt it instead of getting a create motor. It's on a 2014 pro.

My engine bill was 6250$$ on a 2011 pro.. under warranty .. paid 50$$

I recently saw a $4600 bill for a dealer to do a top end on a 600 Pro. Something ridiculous like 14 hours labor = $2100 and another $2400 parts. This was a Polaris dealer. No way would I be the guy paying that.

A short block shouldn't be much more than $3000. I have seen them priced anywhere from $2100-2400 with an exchange. If the previous motor was fubar add another $700-800. Even at a stretch 10 hours book labor (I do not know what Polaris says to R&R a motor) to swap the motor it shouldn't hit $7000. Maybe 8 hours for tech time to diagnose the bad motor which I have seen 8 hours more than once used for tech time.

$7000 is a big bill for a used sled. I know of two 2014's that went down in the past two weeks. It is not making me any more confident in my '14, but at least I have the 3 year warranty.

Can you pm me the shop so I know not to do business with them. I fear its one I may already deal with though!

Now are those prices with the core exchange too?

Indy Dan rebuilt my engine during the summer months (discounted price $2500) and i had two holes in the bottom of the crankcase, one cylinder skirt was broken and one piston totally pooched. I think i paid right at $3000 with all the welding and fixes included.

He can fix alot of busted cores for a very reasonable price.

My friend used to be a mechanic at the local Polaris dealership. When he blew the motor out of his 2011 Pro it took out the cases so no value to it. He said list price on that complete motor was $4400 then.

Another vote for Dan from me!! My situation was a bit different because I bought the sled blown up but still would have spent way more in Polaris Parts to put it back together than I did going with his long rod and with his I have a 3 year warranty!!!!

He has great customer service too!!

That was my same situation, bought it blown.

Think I might be the sis-in-law here... Yes, $6800 seems high to replace an engine. The really strange part is the dealer completed the work BEFORE finding out the warranty claim was rejected.

Flat out refuse to pay - they absolutely owed you a call to let you know that it was not going to be covered and that you would be paying for it 100%. A reputable shop will always give you some type of estimate and make sure you know what you are getting in to. Use it as leverage to get them down to a reasonable cost. I paid $9300 for a brand new hold over 2014 (163) Pro this year.

Seriously!

For $7K, part out the rest of your (blown up) sled, buy a new one and be money ahead!

Also, the warranty is already up on a 2014? It only had 1 year?

Kaytee that really sucks. I would be wanting to follow up further with the shop if you haven't already paid the bill. If you have paid it is a little difficult to seek any recourse at this point but I wouldn't be shy of sharing who did this work. If you are out treeboys way I would guess it's that shop down the road which I have never dealt with but have heard mixed opinions.

At this time there isn't much use in saying get Indy Dan to do there work. It is also a little more difficult to ship a motor to the U.S. And the freight can be significant. Also with the Canadian dollar being so low you are adding over 20 cents on the dollar for exchange.

I would have liked to know even on a one year warranty how some of this bill wasn't covered by Polaris. They could have easily gone good on some of it especially if there was evidence that this was a mechanical failure.
