HCR minus rear cooler

I really want the HCR - Why did cat leave the rear cooler off? It seams like they are asking for trouble for the normal everyday rider. I get that the stiff track and ice sractchers will help with the problem but not completely solve the overheating issues that could occur especially on the trails. My dealer is pretty sure it will not work and are recommending a cooler install. I would rather have 5 extra pounds and not have to stop all the time or depend on ice scratches. What are your thoughts?

saves weight, both from leaving cooler off and because the snow/ice wont build up on tunnel, its not a trail sled so dont ride it like one and you should be fine

I stole this from Geo, he posted it in another thread:

The new chassis (std and sp) has 60% more cooling capacity over the olden, lol, M-sled (3.9 l before now 6.3 l). Probably to help the turbo 4 banger.
Coolant pump and flow across the head are the same as before. I never had any issue before and don't expect an issue now. That's why I chose to start with the HCR this year for my build. Finned heat exchangers with lots of capacity and placed in the correct area for deep snow riding. I think this will be adapted to the climb sleds in the future as AC refines the powder sleds.

I am just saying most all places you have to ride a 5 mile trail to get to the back country. Riding in the end of June last year I had to ride on the dirt for about 1-2 miles just to get to the snow.

I agree though less snow build up that is a big plus. But will the front cooler be enough you think? What if I was to switch to a powder track - Then I am sure it will have problems.

I love the wide front end I have an '10 HCR now and I do not think I want to go back to the narrow stance. Time will tell. If needs be I will get me a cooler from poweradditctionracing.

get an m8 so you aren't up at night worrying about the lack of cooling the stupid hcr has.. then to keep your wide stance pm me and i will trade you the a-arms radius rods etc off of my hcr!

If the HCR 800's dont have cooling issues any body going to be trying to get rid of the extra coolers on the snopro? Thinking I may look into it later it all seems well.

For the majority of riders the extra cooling will be appreciated. The HCR is, as stated above, setup for the racers so they can run it in the stock class. I saw some cooling issues last season on the HCR in the limited time they were on the snow. Mind you not in the stock configuration, but modified.

I would prefer all the cooling I could get.

If they are anything like the way my wife's pro heats up I would get the regular m8. The pro's are a major pain in the right snow conditions even with me riding it. She heats it up all the time and then I have to take it. Half the people buy the hcr's and then they want to narrow them up anyway.

Kind of feeling the original author of this post's hesitation. Will be running a 12 HCR in the Sierra this season and with our heavy spring like snow pretty much all season and warmer riding temps, I will confess I am having some concerns. Will have a short fuse on the exchanger addition option. Really looking forward to the new chassis and taking on a new challenge.

The HCR is meant for RMSHA racers for hill climb events not for mountain riding..... Buy a sno pro if your not racing. If you like the wide front end I know zbroz is making sets. Shocks are the same length.

Travis, I would love to ride your HCR and my sno-pro side by side this winter and spring out here to get a real comparison between the two as far as cooling.

I wonder if part of the reason for no rear cooler is so when the racers stud their tracks they don't tear it up when the suspension bottoms out hard?

Over in the pro section there is a company building extra cooler for the pro, I'm sure if it is an issue they would build them for these as well, if possible.

Willis, you got it! May have a few other tweaks done by then too. Will see you at the video show at GSR. See you then

i think the power claw throws enoughs snow on the front cooler that it should be fine. i ran no flap no scratchers, and a hood on july second in revy and didnt have a problem. might have to do a little ditchbangin on the way up, but if your that worried about it buy an SP.

as for the HCR being built for the stock classes in the RMHSA or whatever, that bs. a lot of people riding them in the kootenays and we dont have any competative hillclimbing even close.....nothing but mtns. bigger guys like the zero pros, and the wider stance....not just racers.

I think what we are overlooking is that cat uses some models for testing and the HCR is the guinea pig this year to see if they can cut costs by removing the rear cooler.A large number of these sleds will be is guys that race them and are more aware of the engine temps but they wouldn't offer them on a snow check if they didn't think it would work.Remember they do have a larger cooling system this year and if this works we might not see the rear cooler on all of the next year models ...excluding the 1100 motors...polaris has also done this on the pro rmk with some success JMO....maybe they should put a radiator on the dash like my 6000 El Tiger lol:face-icon-small-hap

Ps...don't take life so serious no one gets out alive
