Yes it could. Pretty much disassembled my 04 on the mountain until my buddy pushed the tether plunger in with a screwdriver and fired right up.

I'm hoping that was the cause, still wondering why it took a while to fire it up when it cut out completely. Hoping the tether was just intermittent enough to cause the prob....Need an engineering degree to work on these machines!

Agreed, and the newer ones jam more sensors and wires in a smaller place.
Let us know if the problem is solved. That chassis had real problems with the taillight wires shorting under the tank and seat too.
