Anyone put one of these in a Polaris
Will it even thread in ?

I have been looking into exhaust temp sensors for the last 2 weeks because I have a real issue with over paying for a simple component from Cat. In Canada, the exhaust temp sensors go for $150, and IMO that was just too much to ask. Thinking these probs are a generic item, I looked around and this is what I found.

The new 2011 GM Diesel engines use an exhaust temp sensor that looked virtually identical to the Cat one. I spoke to a few diesel techs and received the diagnostic info and temp: resistance chart.

It was tricky to to get this info as I asked several places without much luck. Not to name names, but thanks to the tech that got me what I needed.

The only thing that you have to go is either change the connector to cut and solder the pig tails together.

Specs:

Cat prob: P/N 0630-229

2011 Chev Diesel prob: P/N 12636945 (replaced by 12643246)

I have not had a chance to run this yet, but once I do, I will let you know how it went. Should just be a few more days.

I'm confused...you mention Polaris but then you mention Cat 4 times.

Are you trying to retrofit the GM unit to Polaris or to Cat?

And what is the retail price on this GM temp sensor?

Gm fits the cat (07-09, probably beyond) part #12643246 . A search here or Google should find some more info.

Seems the GM Replacement unit is less than 30.00 for the Cats.

SO is there a Similiar 30.00 dollar unit for Polaris ?

Or do we just contimue to pay 125.00+ for the stock unit ?

Seems like the GM unit ( or similiar) would be the way to go ---

I went the route of $.30 resistor. (Actually free from my friend)

Just soldier in a resistor and haven't had a problem for 3 years now on my dragon.

Could you be more Specific on the The Resistor ?

What watt
What Ohm

Where did you get it ?
Turbo guys have been running resistors instead of probes for years. The EGT probes seem to not last very long under-boost for some reason. You can get them at radio shack. I can't remember watt, 1/2 watt maybe, but you want to solider in 8-10k ohm resistor on the wires going to the ECM and then shrink wrap it. Then just leave the other end of the probe in the pipe. There was a big thread about this, go through and read it. I have been running the resistor for 3 years now. The ecm is looking for a certain range on the pipe. If it doesn't get the correct range it will flash the engine light and add fuel to the fuel map. So, all you are doing is tricking the engine that its in the correct range so it doesn't go into rich fuel map. The egt pipe sensor is not actively tuning the fuel map. Its either on or off.
