I have a 2012 HCR and I want to put the BDX 38" front end on it and I want to utilize my existing shocks. I have been reading about people putting some sort of spacer in the shock to shorten the length. My question is this something that I can do on my own, do I need special tools for this, is this a simple task?

The spacers go inside the shock. You have to completely disassemble the internals to install it. Requires a shaft holding tool, special wrench to unscrew the seal head from the shock body, and the nitrogen recharging setup.

I think installing a spacer inside the hcr shocks will allow you to run a 40" front end but they are still too long to run a 38". Someone will need to chime in and confirm this.

I got my shocks shortened for a 40" front end. I sent them to Nextech in Edmonton, AB Canada. It was 200 bucks i believe if i remember... Yes you need some special tools i have heard, but i am sure there are some rednecks out there that can get them apart with there bare hands!!! LOL
