Sorry Kanedog but a Top Fuel clutch uses a staged clutch that does use centrifugal force to apply pressure to the clutch but it is not a CVT, in fact no similarities to a CVT whatsoever. Also, the benefits of a 6 arm vs 3 arm clutch are about better shifting performance under load, they do not have the ability to create more power power on their own, they simply make shifting more efficient. Not looking to argue just pointing out some facts.

I never said Top fuel(TF) uses a Cvt. I said they use a centrifugal clutch. Ya know, weights, arms, measured in grams, the centrifugal force increases with rpm, the five clutch discs get squeezed together and the car moves. Same principle as a sled centrifugal clutch. The TF clutch specialists determine how much clutch weight to put in depending on current track temp, available traction, density altitude etc. Watch Nhra closely and they change clutch weights in the lineup quite often if track conditions change. Just like sled clutching for different conditions. Coincidentally TF cars operate at 8000rpm, just like a sled. I dunno why the same rpm but it's a cool factoid. The centrifugal clutch hasn't been used on a TF car since the beginning tho. They used to use a.......gear box......can you believe that? A forward thinking racer discovered a centrifugal clutch was far superior to harness 11,000hp in the first 300ft. After that, clutch is locked up and the ratio is now one to one. Just like a sled. Except that a sled centrifugal clutch has a cool feature that TF doesn't have. Overdrive. 99.9% of sled tuners don't use sled overdrive and 75% of sledders don't even know about it. I also said a 6 roller compared to a two roller, not a six arm compared to a three arm. You being the smart guy that you are should know I was talking about secondary clutch rollers. They are no two roller primary clutches. I don't even mention clutch arms. Did you even read my post? I love it when people think they know about something but in reality, they have no clue. You have no clue. It's kinda cute though. Nice try.

I just reread your post and I had suspected you are thick. Now it's officially a fact.

Sorry GKR. Life is hard, even harder if you are thick.

Ouch, Kanedog. Yer kinda mean. GKR's comments were nice and polite and 100% correct. A slipper clutch is a completely different animal than a CVT.

Not even close.
Talk less. Listen more. And quit sniffing glue.

Yet another thick one. Great. Is this what the world is like nowadays? I never once mention CVT. I'm talking about a centrifugal clutch(CC) and the principle behind it. A sled primary clutch operates on the exact same principle as a Top Fuel(TF) dragster CC. Sled clutches have been on sleds forty years before any race car. Clutch weights apply force to a disk and the vehicle moves. The TF CC idea is just a way cool crazy version of a sled primary clutch. Where do you think the innovator of the TF CC system got the idea? Yep, you guessed it, a sled. Isn't it cool that TF dragsters have no transmission but just a centrifugal clutch and 5 clutch discs to go 330mph in a 1000ft? Centrifugal clutch, centrifugal clutch, centrifugal clutch for the next inbred, knuckle draggin' hick that brings this up.

I'm on a roll here. Only six more months till snow. I am the resident chit stirrer.

Hey Kanedog,
I re-read your post. Now I am even more confused (and thick).
I have a Rekluse (its a centrifugal clutch that came from a horse drawn carriage innovator over 100 years ago) in my bike so am I dealing with Turtles on steroids, or two dogs running the opposite way from the Cheetah? I am not even sure if my dogs are racing dogs or not.... Maybe a Rekluse and then a Top Fuel slipper CVT would work better?

It would be so much easier if I was you.

One last question, when you chit stir do you use two stir sticks or six?

Your secondary clutch is junk and your weight/spring/helix combo is never gonna work to its potential. Until you replace it with something twice as efficient, think outside the box clutchwise and open your mind you will continue to fail.
Great project, great idea but its only 50% of what it could be. Haha.
Post up a dyno sheet of your engine. I want to read it, digest it, think about it, analyze it, stay up till 3am picturing it, feeling it, becoming one with the project, envisioning the Cvt bike system and picturing how much of a dog your bike is. Hahahahaha.

Yeah cvt hawks blow...Tell you ride a 800 with a 30 shot of nos. You cant tell me with a straight face if everyone in your group was set up with built hawks you guys wouldnt have a good time. And ill say the same about bikes. If we all had one. Id have a blast.

Get over the horrbile old hawk design and embrace a future of hopefully a hybrid hawk/bike. The speed you can carry with a hawk is unreal. The agiltiy of a bike is unreal. Combine the two

All photo credit goes to RLT photos. Guy gets some awesome shots. He brought his bike up with us and loved the hawk after only spending a few minutes on one.

Hmmmmmm.........nos is a joke but a Hawk sled......could be a Cheetah, ya never know.
What is the gear ratio and driver size of a Hawk?
What are the details of that sled?

looks real good, rider position and weight balance looks good. and cvt will be awesome. tune an efi 2 stroke to have a big hp and the machine will be a killer in the steep and deep

now to stir the pot even more. the top fuel dragsters have 10 times the power they need to launch, so the clutch isn't being used for its efficency, its actually wasting excess power until it locks. so in topfuel its main advantage is being more accurate power control device than a human foot.

instead of arguing the performance issue (I beleive either one will perform fine if you have the skill to shift or tune a cvt), lets look at recent marketing trends that might apply.

Cars less than %10 manuals on the roads but paddle shift autos are becoming popular - why? more fun i suppose

Ameatur drag racing automatics dominate but guys seem to really have fun banging gears going slower.

semi trucks-not sure but have heard truckers prefer a stick shift..

how about the new side by side yamaha made with a stick shift nitro engine-my buddy has one and admits the clutch is a struggle sometimes without low range but he still prefers it to a cvt. he is also a snowbiker and tows his rig with a stick shift dodge pickup.

any others im missing where performance isnt the only issue that applies?

I just remebered I had a bycicle with a nuvinci variable speed hub and sold it a week later because it was too hard to pedal. the nuvinci was kinda like a cvt but used a manual control instead of cenrifugal arms/weights.

Love the pot stirring. Its fun in June.

I'll throw in with you 100% that a manual transmission is more fun, provided that you've learned how to use it. Automatics are easier and require less skill, but manuals give you more control, input, and grins. No doubt about it in my mind.
