Engine Tech 900?

Just wanting anyones opinion on the engine tech 900 for the Polaris 800BB.
Looking at buying one and wanted a few opinions.

I believe there's one for sale in the swap meet right now. Came out of a custom Gen II sled. Rode with they guy for a few days in West Yellowstone, and it absolutely rips. He had a big single pipe on it at time with a 155" I believe, and he went everywhere with that thing. apparently a very reliable motor, it was in two different chassis of his.

I've seen a couple on the snow that ran very well. I don't have any personal experience with them, but I have never heard anything bad about them. I've heard Art Sever builds quality motors. I've been running a UBR900 in an edge chassis and plan on running that motor another couple seasons, it's also a solid running 900.

900

I also have a UBR 900.Rode it for 5 seasons now.It has ran flawless.I think Art builds a good motor from what i've heard, never seen one though.I am going to pull my 900 and put in a watercraft motor this summer. If anyone is intereted 206hp&131lb torque,$2,500.

Did you dyno it or is that what UBR told you.

900

Yes I dynoed it at unionbay on Paul's dyno.I looked up the dyno sheet in my desk drawer.A lot of UBR 900's were around 190 to195hp.This one I run true 48 round's on with the brass slides from the crankshop. Also I use the Ducati ignition off a 440.We run another UBR 900 with rack carbs and the 800 ignition. The sled runs well, but the 48 rounds and ignition easily run away.

What kinda fuel?

Sounds like some folks don't believe your UB 900 Power numbers...

....I believe you. Mine put out 196 without being on the edge. I've run the motor now for 7 seasons....2nd set of pistons with only light honing and the same Crank! Reliable...? You betcha!

Take care of them and they'll last for years and years.

P.S ***The secret to long lasting cranks is to run a gravity oiler set-up for the outer-crank-bearings along with the proper octane in your pre-mixed gas***

P.S.S. I've heard really good things about Art's motors as well...you can't go wrong with either builder "if" you take care of them....just sayin.....

Problem believing union bays dyno numbers?????????

I'm a little skeptical, but then again I never ran 48 mm carbs and 103 octane. Don't know how radical the porting is either.
I'm a flatlander and 93 octane and rack 40's are great down here.

I know how easy it is to make a dyno say anything you want.

I'd like to see a dyno sheet from the 206 hp run.

Also would like to see the engine on a independent dyno such as Dynotech.

The best I ever did was 168 hp on a psi 1155 on pump gas. Then again psi is not a good comparrison. My ported and single piped 800 on pump gas is at 160 hp. So 46 hp from 10cc's more displacement. I'm very skeptical. Most people claim that 185hp is what a 1155 to 1200 will make for hp in a trail form.

I met up with Art Sever at his shop, hes only a few hours away. Great guy, I wish I went with him back in 2003 when I was looking at Big bores. i fell into the psi looser club. live and learn

I wish I still had the one they sent me on their 1150. 237 HP and 146 ft lbs of torque. It looked like it was typed up on a vintage typewriter. I went with the Engine-Tech 1160 and have been quite pleased.

I've heard really good things about the E.T. 1160 (I hear they flat-out rip)

When U.B. was in their hay-day, Doug Ruth did their porting (one of the most talented around). There's so much science that goes into a stout motor package. They really did their homework with that engine. The U.B. 900 motors have been quite powerful and super reliable over the years. I would most definitely recommend them to the fellow who originally posted the question.

Cheers,

I will take a picture and post my UBR 1150 dyno sheet also.226hp&149.9lb.Seven seasons on it and never a problem.Yes Doug Ruth is one of the most talented engine porters around.I ride and tune with Doug.He recently ported two large watercraft based engines for me.

I think the dyno needs some adjustment.

Buy it,port it,runt it on a single pipe and nitrous.. Have Fun!! :)..Have fun (Engine Tech 900 Billett w.SHS Performance porting and jetting, dynoed 172hp and 112f.pound without nitrous)

Send me pm if you want to :)

All dynos do is tell you where a motor makes power and if you make more or less power with the changes you make. The real test is riding it against other sleds.

Agreed!,jetting and clutching was spot on.
But have to say to the threadmaker that the Polaris based 900 engine that Art makes,is alongside with UBR big bores, the best BB option for Polaris.
Insane reliable and makes tons of power.

That sounds more realistic to me.

200 + hp 900 twins, sounds like something psi would claim.

Your specs are they with twin pipes?

Whoever said it matters how they run on the snow, the buttometer tells no lies.
