Elkford, koko claims, smith basin!!

Elkford thursday

anyone riding around Elkford thursday or friday? I am from the area but do not know the area near Elkford. I hear they have more snow than Corbin & Morrissey.

well i was there last weekend and it was decent and they have been gettin snowed on all week so I imagine it should be alright...at least its fun to get out for a ride

Group of us are heading out to Elkford on Saturday. How or where do you access the trail that takes you into Koko Claims?

Elkford

head north of town, passed the gas stations to round prairie staging area. groomed trail will take you from there. watch out for logging trucks! have fun

i live right here in elfkord. we went up the claims last weekend (december 13) and ther was quite a bit of snow at the top 3-4 feet nothing fresh. there was a guy up ther that said he tryed to get into smith but there wasnt enough snow. we went up to mirror lake and it was alright riding. lots of wind blown snow. hopefully we get some more snow soon. i want to play in some fresh stuff hahah

Hey guys the long range forecast looks pretty promising for around Xmas time! Were heading up there on the 26th! Any snow lately?

you can ride, we rode 3 times up there so far this year. but its only playing in the lakes so far, and trails. now that we've got higher temps and more snow its looking better.

koko claims

just broke into the gorge today and there not near enough snow to play in any of the basins yet praying for some snow over the next few weeks

I would think so...but that whole area is steep and deep....scares me just thinkin about it....I'd stay away with the avalanche risk....not worth it IMO...go somewhere else.

snow sucks up the claims. less that 2 feet. nothing fresh in the last 2 weeks. plus we dug a couple of avy pits and the bottom 5 inches is sugar snow and then the rest on top is semi hard packed snow. every were is risky. i would stay away if i was you.

Its a scarey place when the snowpack is normal....I wouldnt ride there right now if someone payed me...have seen lots of slides (after the fact) come down there even the trail ride in has all those chtes you have to cross....not worth it IMO
