Just like any one who does sports we do not leave the house thinking we are going to die or want to take chances with our lives.
The biggest problem is that once some people are up on top of a mountain or at the bottom of a big juicy hill (in the case of hillclimbers), with powder all around etc. It is too late to make a good decision!
Education in different forms is the only answer. Imagine if every news media who commented on the last three incidents actually used the air time to promote the Canadian Avalanche Assoc., Guides who run courses and have experts talking about all the gear there is how much education would have gotten out.
