Death wobble

What is this death wobble that some are talking about on the XM sleds?
Thinking about upgrading to a new to me used XM and would like to know prior to buying what this is?

There is no death wobble, most guys moving up to an XM override the sled, they put the input they had to previously on an xp and do the same on the XM, they also blame the T-Motion which only moves 2 degrees to either side, but they articulate their ankles way more than this but blame the t-motion for thinks like death wobble....the truth is the xm tracks better in a straight line then any of the ski-doo sleds before it...13-16 xm is awesome and if you ride deeper snow the T3 package is well worth it and another level of tippiness so just ride it easy with very little input and you will be surprised how easy it is to handle. I had to do the same on testing days with the ne 2017 Gen4 rev...it is very agile...

Pretty sure that is a Dodge truck thing. Sled has no death wobble to it, it does feel the ski lines left by other sleds. It is no better or worse than any other sled I have rode.

I was the one that started the death wobble. I always called it the rider forward twitch and was telling a buddy and he knew what I was thinking. He said "I call that the death wobble ". It has nothing to do with over riding or the t-motion . It is only in spring snow. Whether a castor issue or whatever I don't know but the skis bite and jerk one way. It is magnified because the XM steers so much easier than anything else. It feels like you could yard sale it really quick if not paying attention. My wife loved her t3 174 until the spring when it would do this to her. I told her I knew what she was talking about but it didn't bother me. I don't like it. Something is off somewhere but I just dealt with it. I just assumed it might be a woo of rider forward. Some things are a tradeoff. I am betting it isn't there on the gen 4. I ordered my wife one. So yes Dave it is there on the xm but for those looking to buy an xm I wouldn't let it slow you down. I. Wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Pro's do it too.

Never felt your death wobble yet.. Maybe a limiter strap setting or something overlooked

Yep, its been awhile for me..
Comes from the ski's/front..
Handlebars yank back and forth
Only happened a couple times on crusty snow

I owned a '13 XM for one season. I wouldn't call it a death wobble, but you do get more feedback through the skis to the bars in certain conditions on the XM. I agree it's a combination of rider forward and steering that is so light. I found it most noticeable in rutty snow and spring snow. That is what makes the XM feel less predictable and less stable to me. The Doo guys probably don't mind it because you get used to what you ride. I would note we were following one guy up a wooped out road and he was going a bit over his skill level. Sled death wobbled him right over the canyon edge...he supermanned out of sight and so did sled! Fortunately both missed the trees and were OK...nothing hurt but pride! Personally, I had a tough time feeling as confident on the XM in nasty conditions because of this "responsiveness". Each to his own.

It comes from having the handle bars and riser rotated too far forward. First hand experience, rolled em back some problem gone, never to return.

Death

Crank out of spec (and unbalanced) leading to primary clutch worn out?

I've experienced it on icy/crusty snow. Riser in line and nothing wrong with the primary, LOL

I have a 2016 T3 & when there's an ice crust on the snow it can be a handful. It's the 3" keel on the bottom of those ski's. Lightened up ski pressure and it was much better.

Experienced this yesterday. It was pretty annoying and I had to go very slow. After about an hour the sun had softened the crust to the point that it went away.

That's the exact experience I had. A layer of thin ice over soft stuff and the XM was horrible. Fortunately we rose in elevation enough to get back into soft snow and problem went away. Anyone who says the XM isn't less predictable than the other mfg's just hasn't ridden them all. It's fine in soft normal powder snow but it has more tendency to pitch around on the front end in tracks or less uniform snow than the other mfgs. You get used to it. This tendency is part of the design equation that makes it so nimble and responsive though. You can't have it both ways.
