Cross country racing in WI

For the Jr 10-13 riders we wanted to get them more track time since they are really limited to one class so we have decided to add miles to their race. Instead of the normal 10-15 mile race for these young guns we will be running them 25-30 miles depending on the course. These kids are the future of our sport and getting them more track time is extremely important to us. This will help them gain the skills and ability to be a better racer down the road!

There is another piece of exciting news for the racers; we have decided to do an end of year overall points champion in the Sport, Semi Pro, & Pro classes. These overall championships will combine the points from the respective Sprint and Distance classes and there will be awards and/or purse for these additional championships!! There will still be championships awarded for the individual classes but we wanted to create a program to find out who is the best overall rider in each division! To qualify for this combined points championship you must be a season member and race both classes each weekend, no throw-outs.

Here is a quick overview on how this will work:

  • Pro classes have a weekend payout of 80% but another 10% will go towards the Pro combined points championship
  • Semi Pro classes have a weekend payout of 70% but another 10% will go towards the Semi Pro combined points championship
  • Sport classes don’t have a payout but Curve XS skis has put up a free set of skis for the Sport combined points championship (discount certificates for 2nd & 3rd)

The 85 class is another one of our cash payout classes and will have a weekend payout of 70% but another 10% will go towards the year end points championship for them as well.

As of right now we have it set up that every class will receive money, product, or certificates for season end points!!

ALL 120 racers will receive awards at each race as well as for end of year points!!

Think SNOW!!!

We were to have a snocross race here in Somerset on December 31st as a fundraiser for a couple local organizations but with no snow we are moving the fundraising portion of the event to coincide with the Papa B's Lounge New Years party. We invite everyone to join us at Papa B’s in Somerset, WI to help us in our efforts to support these local organizations: Collide Youth Group Grace Place Food Shelf Somerset Sno-Sports snowmobile club

The fundraising will be from 5-8pm on Dec 31st. There will be food, prize raffles, 50/50 raffle, meat raffle, and Papa B’s will be offering specials for anyone that brings a food donation. All the food donations will go to the Grace Place located here in Somerset. Our goal is to fill a truck with enough food to make a huge impact for our neighbors in need. Times are tough for everyone in this economy and we want to use this event to help make an impact in our hometown, for the better!!

At 8pm there will be a DJ and Karaoke for entertainment until we ring in 2012!!

So come join us and show the Somerset community how much you care while celebrating the coming of the New year!!

12/26 update

Couple quick updates:

We have talked with the owner at Summit Lake Game Farm late last week and feelings were mutual to reschedule the January 7th race to January 28th. There is some snow in the forecast between now & the 7th but we want ensure the best possible course so pushing the date back a couple weeks will hopefully allow us to get some good snow!

Some people have asked if they need trail permits at any of our races and for the racing itself you do not BUT if you plan on doing any riding on the flowage at Mercer after your race you will need to have registration on your snowmobile per WI DNR.

I spoke with Telemark Ski Resort owner Friday and he is offering a special rate for the March 3rd race weekend, $69 for one night & if you stay 2 nights the second night is $59.

This is our series finale then Saturday night will be the year end banquet. On Sunday we are doing a group ride, providing the trails have snow, so let’s make a fun family weekend to celebrate our inaugural season.

Call Telemark Ski Resort & mention “snowmobile racing” when booking your rooms.

Call soon as rooms will book fast!!! 877-798-4718

Also, Telemark is working on a guaranteed purse for the overall season points championships in Pro, Semi Pro, & 85. This purse will be for overall "combined" points. That is the Sprint (shorter distance) & Distance class points combined to name an overall champion in each of these classes.

Details on this will be coming in the next few weeks.

To qualify for year end points you MUST be a season member so don't delay & get signed up!!

If you have any questions email me at Todd@corpowersports.com

Snow conditions have not changed at Summit Lake Game Farm even with the postponement from the earlier date. We will be talking with the facilities on Tuesday to see if they received anymore snow since we spoke to them on Thursday. If this race can not happen on Jan 28th we are looking at two alternate venues and will let you know right away. It will be very dissapointing if we are not able to run the race at the Game Farm but they will definitley be on the schedule for next year.

If there is a change in venue the race will be rescheduled to Feb 11th to allow for the new facilities to prepare for our arrival plus to give our racers time to make new travel and lodging plans and we will be making the announcement next week when & where we will be racing so watch the website or Facebook page.

I was at Mercer on Thursday doing the race course evaluation and good news, there is 6-8” of snow on the flowage but under the snow there is about 1” of slush from the warm weather last week. Looking at the extended forecast there are a number of very cold days coming up so that should freeze very nicely. There is a chance of snow almost everyday and no warm up in sight so the course should just get better!! This will not be an ice race as there is a lot of drifts on the flowage currently so it should be a very fun & challenging course, approximate length is about 8 miles long but we are looking at trying to get it closer to 10 miles. MERCER RACE IS A GO!!!!

We do not require pre-registration for any of our races but we are asking for everyone that is planning on attending this first race to send in their registration by mail (address on the form) or to registration@corpowersports.com. This will greatly expedite the check in process. You can download the form on racer resources page

We are also looking at having a check in period Friday night in the Hideaway Resort lounge and that info plus a race order of events will also be announced next week.

When Andrea & I made the decision to launch this series we knew there would be challenges along the way but a snowless winter like this year was one challenge we did not expect!! Thanks for your patience while we deal with these issues and our goal is to do everything possible to run all 3 races.

If you have any questions please drop me an e-mail at Todd@corpowersports.com

PS: We will still accept standard season memberships until the first round

January 28th race has been rescheduled, again...

We figured for sure that mother nature would have provided us the much need snow to hold the Summit Lake Game Farm race on the 28th but as of today they have 4" of snow in the woods and the fields have 1" at the most (in the good spots).

This was the last possible weekend of this season to hold the race at the Game Farm and neither of our back-up locations are available for that same weekend so we will move this round to Feb 11th and will announce very soon information for the new venue.

This will make our Feb 4th round be the opening round for the series and there is SNOW on the flowage!! We were up there Thursday and they had 6-8" of snow and it is also drifted plus there is more snow in the forecast for the upcoming weeks. Mercer is in the southern part of the lake effect belt so that is a plus for us!! The town is backing the event 100% and is excited to have a cross country series return the area after a 9 year hiatus.

Everything is all lined up and we are working with the resort to have more pit areas plowed. Since this is the first cross country race with snow in the area we are expecting a good turnout.

We do not require pre-registration but with the anticipation of larger number of riders we are requesting that riders send in their entry forms to speed up the check in process. Payment can be made then at check in (cash or check, no credit cards). They can be mailed or e-mailed to registration@corpowersports.com

There will also be a driver check-in period Friday night from 6-8 pm inside the Hideaway Resort.

Please visit www.corpowersports.com for more info or send us an email to Todd@corpowersports.com to get answers for any question

We look forward to seeing everyone on Feb 4th!!

Just updated our cross country entry form to reflect the new Team class we will be offering at every event!!

$100 per team ($50 per rider), 50% payout each weekend, 25% towards year end points purse

Rules are simple: 2 riders per team, max of 1 Pro rider per team, each rider runs 2 laps of a 4 lap race (3 laps for a 6 lap race; depends on course length & time).

Here is the link to the new entry form: http://www.corpowersports.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/xc-entry.pdf

Cor PowerSports is extremely proud to announce we have brought a sponsor on board that enables us to offer a guaranteed season point’s purse. This purse is for the overall Pro and Semi Pro season points championships. To be eligible for this purse, riders will need to be a season member and race both Sprint and Distance classes at each round. Points will then be combined from these two classes to crown an overall Pro and Semi Pro season champion.

Here are the classes and payouts for the season points (Payout amounts are based on 3 races):
Pro Class
First - $500
Second - $300
Third - $200

Semi Pro Class
First - $250
Second - $150
Third - $100

85 Class
First - $150

Team Class
First - $100

Saturday Feb 4th is our opening round of our series in Mercer, WI at the Hideaway Resort on Turtle Flambeau flowage. As of today there is 12-24” of snow on the flowage and the wind has been building up drifts all over the lake so it will get rough. Current course layout is just over 8 miles and we will be working to stretch it closer to 10 mi.

Part of our goal with the series is to support the local communities that host our races and to give back. At the Mercer race the Mercer area high school senior class will be selling concessions (Brats & Patties provided by our sponsor Johnsonville) to raise funds for their senior trip to California in June.

In addition to fundraising for the local high school kids we are going PINK at the Mercer race in support of Andrea Myers participation with the WI Pink Ribbon Ride on Feb 17-18 in Eagle River, WI. We will be donating $1 from every race entry that day towards her fundraising efforts. Every dollar she raises stays here in WI to provide financial assistance to both men and women diagnosed with breast cancer. If you would like to donate to this program there is a link to her fundraising page on our homepage or talk to Andrea at the races.

Had 117 entries and everyone had a blast so we are excited to get another great weekend in the books at Phillips, WI this weekend!!

Be just over 7 mi course on Wilson Lake and we will using the island in front of Birch Island Resort to throw is some flavor this weekend!! 4-6" of snow on the lake so come out and cheer on the racers or better yet, join in!!

We will be going to Telemark Resort on Friday to check out conditions but we have been told that there is 2-3′ of snow on the ski trails that we will be racing on!! This is not a lake race or even using anything resembling a lake!! It is all woods and maintenance roads so it will be a true cross country race that will get VERY rough!! After the races we will have our awards banquet dinner from 7-9pm then there will be a VIP snowmobile race party so let’s make it a fun weekend!!

It looks like this will be the only cross country race on this weekend so once again we are expecting a large number of entries for the March 3rd Telemark Resort race!! We ask everyone to mail or e-mail your entry forms in right away to help keep things running smooth race day morning.

Open registration Friday night 6-8pm inside Telemark Resort lobby and Saturday morning from 7-8am trackside.

If you want to pay by PayPal or credit card you MUST pre-register as we do not have the capabilities to process them at the race sites. Payment on Friday or Saturday must be cash or check.

THANKS everyone for helping out with getting things in early!!!

The Telemark race on March 3rd is a GO!!!

There is between 1-2' of snow on the course with only a few minimal spots that are thinner. A good portion of the course is in the woods and shaded from the heat of the sun so it should be great for the race. The attached image is from last Friday when I was there checking out conditions!!

I have been notified that the hillcross and snocross circuits have pulled out from the event so we will be able to use more of the facilities for our race. We plan on extending the course as much as possible and getting 7+ miles so it will be a great terrain race with no lakes or rivers, just nice good old fashion cross country racing!!

Please e-mail registrations to registration@corpowersports.com or starting tomorrow morning you can fax them to 715-247-3859

We strongly suggest to pre-register so we can get all the races in that we have planned for the day. In addition to our normal races we will offer a mechanics race plus a Mom's race, for the Mom's that don't race and want to get in on some fun!!

Any questions drop me an e-mail at Todd@corpowersports.com

We heard that there are rumors’ going around that the March 3rd race at Telemark has been cancelled, it has NOT been cancelled and we will be racing a bigger course than originally planned as the snocross and hillcross series cancelled!!

We will be racing as there is over a foot of snow on 95% of the course with areas closer to 2’ plus another 8-12” in the forecast for Sunday night into Monday then another storm on Wednesday so the course will be in amazing shape!!

Banquet is at 7pm and if you plan on attending we need to know ASAP as we only have 100 spots available and so far almost 90 of them are spoken for! If we need more we can add them but like I said, we need to know ASAP!!

Contact me a Todd@corpowersports.com for questions or to let me know about your banquet group

There is a great dinner (right now is $17.50 per person but working on getting it down to $15) planned and awards but we also will have a prize raffle and 50/50 raffle.

Thanks,
Todd & Andrea
