I have not seen a whole lot of commo stuff posted the last couple years. Is everyone using old stuff or new stuff? Please share by addressing the following questions and feel free to share and open further discussion further about your setup or ask questions about another users setup?

What commo are have you been taking out with you?
Are you able to scan frequencies and pickup other groups?
What Kind of range are you getting on clear days?
What kind of range are you getting on overcast days?
How is the battery life?
What other accessories devices & brands are you running in your setup?
Are you running video in conjunction with your commo?
Have you had to use your commo in an emergency situation?
What do you like about your setup?
What do you think needs improvement with your setup?
How much did your setup cost per item?
How would you rate the value vs performance? 1-10. sumthin

I posted this a few days ago in the swap meet area... Should have posted here. However the guys in swap meet should know this before buying something more expensive. So, I'll leave it there.

Radioddity gm30

I'm not selling or stand to gain anything of value by posting this info. I bought 2 of these for testing. 4 stars for radioddity
Preprogrammed with gmrs frs same as bca/oxbow.
Will scan ctcss tones to identify the ctcss tones (sub channels) that your bca buddies are using. (Not sure how BCA is even able to sell the things. Must be some sort of marketing magic).
4 watts on uhf (all of the 5 watt dual band vhf/uhf radios are 4 watts on uhf. You will likely never notice a lack of power when compared to the 8 watt radios that are really 7 watts on uhf)
Comes with a usb-c charger and will use any c charger.
Replaceable antenna.
***Uses the same 2 pin Mic and programming cable as most of the other ccr's. <<<< pay attention usb c is charge only.
The one down side is the lack of chirp support. Radioddity's cps is the only choice.
About $50 on amazon and the good 2 pin mics can be had for $15ish. Get your self a signal stick antenna and away you go for <$100.

Bought a pair of rocky talkies. https://rockytalkie.com/ Spec wise they should compete with BCA. Have very limited use with them on 1 trip with temps 15f-30f. Didn’t get em soaked or packed with snow so unsure how they actually hold up but supposed to be ok. Seem robust and well built. Link very easy with the BCA’s in the goup, just picked the same channel and sub channel. Didn’t get too far away from members of the group so unsure on actual range but never had a time when BCA worked and rocky talkie didn’t. Clear transmitting and receiving. Controls easy to use and didn’t have problems changing channel on accident, can easily lock the buttons on it. Whole unit just slightly bigger than just a bca mic so take up no space in pack since clip onto outside of pack. Battery life was great, didn’t charge em for a few days and didn’t budge much although honestly didn’t chatter back and forth a ton. About 200$ for the pair. I have a baofang but like that with the rocky talkie there is no learning curve to it and can literally hand it to anyone and with a 2 min instruction they can be up and running. 2 sec instruction if you turn it on and set the channel for em and show em where the ptt button is ? supplied clips are nice and easy and the back up leash is a nice touch. Id say for someone that wants a super easy to use set up that works with people with BCA’s its a good option. Not much time with them but so far very happy with purchase.
