Clutching

Just wanted to start a general clutching thread for everything you experience, find, fix, change, and improve. I never had to touch my 14xm clutches besides cleaning them and I have little experience with Doo clutches. I have adjusted the belt height and just figured out how to adjust clickers. My clickers are now on 2, I ride 3-6k feet, and rpm's still hit 8100max. I'm getting into the manual now to see what, if any, other changes can be made.

Id like to keep an eye on my RPM while riding, but can't see that stupid gauge covered in snow and in the sunlight and full of condensation

I can barely tell how much gas I have left

Hoping Rooster built can chime in on this...

Looks like I'll have to put clickers on 1 to get down to 7900+/- until I figure out pin weights

I was riding in Revy this past weekend and went down to clicker 2. I still hit 8245rpm so i think i will need to go down to 1 as well. Maybe need weights after as well.

just read my gauge .. max rpm 8500 !! yiykes

gonna reset it and lower the clickers

8500 rpm can't be healthy for the belt lift (which I blew one already)

X2 on this.. I'm running 81-8200 on clicker 3 @6500'. I feel like we need a little more weight to really load the motor and still run #3. Also hoping Paul gets something good for us too.

We typically ride from 3K to 5K here so I have changed the driven spring to the Skidoo black and am waiting on the pins from Goodwin as we speak. Stock pins are 16.7G so I ordered the 38mm kit. After a few rides it really looked like I was getting a lot of belt slip hence the change in secondary spring. Should find out more this weekend.

Don't have much snow yet to test, but went for a short ride today up to 8400ft, clickers on 2, 16.7g pin wt and the motor still pulled 7800-7900! Impressed to say the least.
Sled had 25 miles at start of the ride. Had to adjust belt deflection again today. After adjusting belt rode some more and stopped checked clutch and it was cool to the touch. I have taken all foam and cardboard felt junk out of clutch cover and cut plastic down by the foot well.

I snagged this picture from a skidoo techs computer at haydays. Might help.

They need a secondary spring, softer start force on the primary and more hold back down hill. Just for starters.

SHR will be in Togwotee next week with 2 or 3 G4's and an XM with a P-drive for those interested.

Will be focusing on stock sled set-up for the G4's

MPI Turbo tuning next time out...

Ride #3, we found some snow today! 850 continues to impress. Got to really open it up, make some good pulls in deep snow. At 9800ft w/ 16.7g weight, clicker 3, motor pulled 7800-7900 consistently.
For the guys running lower elevation, i would bet you guys need more weight in the clutch. Maybe a different secondary spring? I'm no clutch guru by any means, just my observations

Hey Guys,
We are anxious as you all are to dial these sleds in. Thankfully we have the snow so far this year to get some good testing in. Our initial findings are that the stock clutching leaves some on the table for our type of riding. Not horrible but not really a tree weapon as clutched from the factory. The first thing we would suggest before clutch kits are released is adding some weight to get your rpms in check. Check for updates on our Facebook page.

Are you thinking a stiffer secondary spring?

Yes, tried a black/ black Doo secondary for the past 2-3 weekends. Much improved but gotta look for more....

Completely gutted every clutch component tonight. New springs, ramp/flyweights, helix. Will know if I did good or real real bad by tomorrow.

One thing I can say is I did accomplish at least one goal, lower the engagement. Now at 3200-3000 on concrete, VS 3800-4000. Which should put me just about 4000 in the snow VS 4800-5000.

Sweet. That's the first thing I noticed was the high engagement rpm. You'll have to let us know how it goes.

I haven't spent much time with doo clutching, but I did
on my m8 back in the day. so far I have not blow'n a belt
and clutch temps seem comparable to my 13 xm. 68%BI
what I find odd is why I seem to be using so little of my
primary. I also wonder why this sled has no engine braking? when doing a pull I see 8100 every time I am checking, yet my recall shows a max of 8409?:face-icon-small-dis
