Cleaning aluminum deposits from the connecting rod

Can you clean aluminum deposits from the wrist pin end of the connecting rod? I am not sure if you can use muratic acid on the steel rod or not. Is this crank toast? Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

Will emery cloth scratch the needle bearing surface?

That rod most definitely needs replaced. With that kind of heat damage and pitting it is no good.
