boost gauge for turbo??

What is everyone using that works well and easy to read?
I am running a BD pump gas turbo and would like to see where my boost is.

most folks have the AEM analog meter, and i have no clue why except its gotta be cheaper and does not need to be powered.....but i will be changing to the digital display ASAP...the scaling of the analog is silly IMO

the best price i found for the digital AEM boost guage....click on the pdf link and it shows the wiring and break down of parts, you should only have to hook up the 12VDC (two wires) and run the pressure tubing.....wait a minute, does the bd pg kit have the ports to tube up the DP reading?

this the gauge that i have always used on my turbo'd sleds..

liquid filled is the way to go IMO.. the only digital boost gauge I have ran was the dakota digital.. and hated it.. but i love my aem 02..

Maybe I am not reading your question right.

But if you are asking how to read your boost and you are using a boondocker box.

You go to STATS and push select and push select and the boondocker box give you a very accurate boost reading. I unplugged my boost gauge because it was so hard to read and the boondocker is so easy to read.

Once you get your boost reading and you clear it you can leave that page open take a run look down and see what your highest boost was, clear it again turn it up or down and repeat until you have it dialed in.

The boondocker box gives you lots of information.

does the new eay tuner bd program still show boost readings....at idle the bd box is hard to read, guess i need to hook up the 9v battery, is the 9v battery in parallel with the 12v or some form of aux power?? i looked everywhere on the bd site but cant find anything that explains where to wire in a 9v battery so you can view the screens while the sled if not running

The 9 volt powers up the box when it is unplugged from the rest of the harness. It uses the red and black wires on the end of the plug. The box will show max boost in the stats section. IMO a guage is overrated, you can't hardly read it while riding anyway. A sealed guage won't keep it's zero either. Since they are sealed, the changes in altitude and barometric pressure changes the zero.

I ran a digital and it sucked, not accurate at all and the leds would spin around under power, was wierd. Haven't tried the AEM, would love to try the AEM boost gauge/controller but I worry about use in the snow environment. I have the Autometer liquid filled on my RXt and its great but its a 35psi gauge a bit overkill if your running 15lbs or less. Also the liquid gauges create pressure when changing altitudes, you need to open a set screw before you ride to release pressure to make it accurate.

so the aux power 9 volt battery option needs the harness unplugged? why?....that sounds like a PITA

once again, the bd box is hella hard to real at idle...and how is the boost reading so perfect?

sealed guage wont keep its zero?...no analog guage on the planet is worth a flip unless it cost a bunch....you get what you pay for and instraments need to be calibrated, once a year for most good quality stuff

i work with liquid filled guages everyday, and no, a decent quality liquid filled guage will not change its zero with alt or baro....maybe the stuff we use on sleds will, notice the cheap price

i have access to cert test equipt and need to varify my wal-mart boost guage soon

disregard my last post, now i understand...and yes, the liquid filled guages im talking about have a very mild spring loaded check valve at the top (air) that will equalize outside/inside air pressure

FFI (For folks info) and Boost guage is just a DP across the compressor side of the turbo (im 95% sure of this)....so its best to call up grainger or McMasters and get a quality DP guage for 300ish and be done with it...i prefer the yellow backs

BD sends the kit with a connector to plug into the harness. The connector simply has 2 wires, red/black to plug the 9v into. My connector is easy enough to get to, but it is easier to just start the sled in most cases. I have my box velcro'd to my console just in back of the steering column and can actually read and adjust it w/o even stopping.

YOUR BD BOX should have a max and peak boost memory with reset...GO TO PSI SCREEN READ YOUR INSTRUCTIONS FOR IT...Unless they've changed it in the last few years...Ive got an older program in my box but yours should have it. You should be able to access this information while the sled is idling.

Its a reading off the transducer, which is nice since you dont have to stare at your gauge while riding and you can concentrate on making sure your 02 is correct.

With the BD system and the high boost and air intake temp record a boost gauge is not realy needed but if you add a second gauge go with a liquid filled autometer like Snowknight said above keeps the needle bounce at bay.

either gauge will work.. the 5404 has no post from keeping the needle to go negative. so you can tell when adjustment is needed..
