NWS has 2-4 inches of snow predicted for today and tonight for Lead and 4-9 inches for the Hardy Camp area today though Friday. Temps with this system will be hovering around freezing so it should fall as heavier snow instead of fluff. 30+ MPH winds with this system which is always good for laying down good snow. Lesser chances of snow this weekend and much of next week.

I'm sure the southern parts of the trails system are still little to zero snow cover(?)

Snotel

Snotel at Rapid Creek Road (1/2 mile from TH) shows 4" in the last 36 hours. Most of the trailers at TH are full of vintage sleds because it is the Vintage ride tomorrow. 4" of snow is about right for them.

Got lucky tonight and was able to get on a cellular hot spot. Internet at Hardy still not working. 4-5 inches of snow around Hardy yesterday. Good heavy wet snow, 5-6 inches to the North by Spearfish Canyon. 1-2 inches today. Still snowing lightly. Weather man predicting 2-5 inches for tomorrow. Groomers are out tonight. Groomers reporting heavy snow currently falling to the South and approx. 9 inches of new snow to the North from the last 2 days. Had my first stuck sled of the year today. Cindy from Trailshead brought over cookies to Hardy and got her snowmobile stuck in the yard on the way out. My vintage sleds are all cleaned up and ready for the vintage ride tommorrow.

Vintage ride went well. Big turnout 74 sleds at the show. Chaparral ran flawless. For a vintage sled it handles the powder well and climbs better than any vintage sled I have rode. There is enough snow that the trails are getting rough quick. Helped a snowmobiler North on 1 that got off the trail and was stuck against a tree. Snow was to my crotch (knee deep to those less vertically challenged). Groomers out again tonight. There is 6 inches of snow on my truck from last night and today. Mostly fluff. I will post some vintage pics when I get home after this weekend.

Any condition updates for today? I know it's cold outside, but did this snow turn out to be anything? I keep driving around and it sure doesn't look like it's enough to be anything worth riding in, especially off trail.

Think it will be worth bringing a sled along next weekend? Even if we had to trail ride for a day that'd be ok with the guys i'm coming with.
TIA

I rode taday. Plenty of snow now for off trail schnanigans. Some spots that had snow before are awesome. I wouldn't hesitate to come out and ride again in a week even if it didn't snow.

Trails are in much better shape than they have been. Off trail is getting better but you still have to be very careful. I was called today for a complaint of snowmobiles on the Lead Country Club golf course. Owners/managers wanted trespassers prosecuted. Arrived to find tracks and a track. Someone blew a mountain track and left it on the golf course. Followed the drag marks through the golf course, through a fence, across a private cabin property and out to the road where it appeared to be loaded up on a pickup. My 2015 patrol sled turned 5000 miles today. I am still on the original belt. Groomers out again tonight. I am off for a couple of days and will be back up on Wednesday.
