Anyone been to Bear Creek Lodge since it's re-opened?

Planning to stay in mid-February for a week and wanting to get input about it's location. Cool that you can ride right from the lodge, but how is the riding / access in that area? Upper intermediate / advanced mountain riders.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Trying to figure out if that's where we want to stay and primarily ride from the lodge or if we want to truck / trailer to different lots.

Thank you.

It is about the only place you can stay and ride from, while staying in the McCall area. You can ride the trail north about 8 miles and get into some areas to ride. Depending on which route you take, there could be some off trail riding along the way. The further north you go the more areas there are to ride. Check the area trail maps on the Valley County website under Recreation. Areas around Goose Lake, Hazard Lake, or Granite Lake will offer some good off-trail riding. Pack extra gas and ride the trails to Warren Wagon Road and then up toward Burgdorf, Secesh, and Warren and you can find more areas.
Double check the map for restricted areas, though. There is a closure area near Goose Lake from mid-January to the end of March.
Also, check the Payette Avalanche Center website for conditions.
Have fun!!!

He right. Short ride to off trail and good stuff if you know where you are going, but for the majority of where out of towners go, it adds 4? 5? miles each way to trip, compared to driving up to upper lot at Brundage.

But it is the only place in the area where you can ride from the place. North and South. South is a bit limited until you get a ways due to private land sales, on-trail only, but it leads to a lot of good stuff. And please respect it, because they don't have to let us use it for access, they are doing it to maintain/build good relations with the local community. At a minute's notice they can close the gates and prosecute trespassers if we f it up. (And they will know, they have almost unlimited funds for cameras, motion sensors, helicopters, etc. And they use their resources. They have video of a woman who was pissed about the closures climbing their gate, taking a sheet on the trail, and then climbing back over. And she did it regularly, lol.)

There are some houses to rent on the Warren Wagon road that you can ride from as well. I've stayed in town the times I've been there and trailer the short distance to the snow park. Its very easy to do. about 10-15 minute drive and your at the snow park on Brundage.
