Arctic cat tether

Ran into an odd one the other day while out. Left the truck and rode about 5 km up the trail, then sled died suddenly. Wouldn't restart. Started checking it out, got one of the guys to hold in the switch for the tether and it fired up. Got looking at the tether, and noticed the screw that used to be inside the tether cap itself was gone so it wasn't pushing down far enough on the switch. Must have had some ice or snow in it but once it got warm and melted sled shut down. Just one to keep in mind

I've found that if you put a small dab of superglue on the threads of the screw, it helps lock it in place. Just be sure to allow the glue time to dry with the lanyard off of the switch. This is so that the glue doesn't run down on to the rubber bellows seal in the switch and damage it.
Also applying a small amount of Sil-glide (clear silicone lube) inside the cap makes it easier to attach to the switch, helps repels water and extend the life of the switch/cap.

If you need a new lanyard or screw the Cat part #s are
Lanyard with screw is 0709-055
The screws are also available separately, part # 0623-338

I carry a spare cap, doesn't take up much space

I put a dab of dielectric grease inside the cap,I've never had an issue and it's been 3 years with the cat teather. Knock on wood!

Is everyone running the cat tether on their sleds? I am looking to install one on my '14 when i get home from work and am just wondering what the best set up to go with is. I've read that the cat tether can be a pain in the a$$ to install. Any help or info would be great. Thanks in advance!

I keep an extra teather as well. Also something you may want to keep on hand is a fuse! I had my 10 amp micro fuse blow and it kept the sled from revving over 7,000 rpms. The sled will go into limp mode and let you drive it home but good luck getting out of a hole. Still have no idea why it happened but the local dealer knew right away over the phone, said alot of sleds came in with the same issue.

A few of us had cat tethers quit working all together. Like you pull the tether off and the sled keeps running. Not sure what other options there even are, but cat isn't the answer.

Had the same happen on my 13 a few times. Pretty sure it's ice related might look at a ProArmor or something in the future

I ran cat tethers for probably the past 6 years and never had an issue with them myself. Although some riding buddies have. On my '16 I went with the plug and play Pro Armor tether from OFT. Super easy to install and so far works how it should
