Airoh Helmets

It was time to get a new motocross helmet and after shopping around and not seeing anything that I really liked in my price range I started searching around the web. I came across Airoh Helmets and heard people saying nothing but good things about how light and comfortable they are. Also, from what I gathered in my research the safety standards these helmets meet are higher than our DOT and SNELL ratings so that was another plus. The only down side is they are not sold in the USA, you have to order them from the UK. I bought one of the Dome models and the price wasn't too bad ($190). They have a more expensive model (Stelt) that is suppose to be super super light, but it's $380-$480. The kicker on the whole deal was the shipping. It was like $49 or something which sucked, but the helmet was still more appealing than any other helmet I found for $240. The impressive thing though was I ordered it on a Monday, they shipped it Tuesday, it was at my house Friday. Anyways, here's my review of it.

Pro's:
- Once you get it on it's comfortable. It has a different fit than helmets I've tried on. It's tight going on b/c the bottom of the helmet is smaller so it "grips" your head better. Also the inner liner is a very soft material that feels pretty nice

- Ventilation works well

- It's light. The Dome model I bought isn't super super light (1300g), but it is a little lighter than my past helmets

Con's:
- When I first tried the helmet on it felt like it needed more soft padding on the top for comfort, but once I rode with it I never noticed it.

- The opening for the face is a little on the small side so some goggles won't fit very well

- It squeaks. Not sure it's just b/c it's new, but the visor squeaks a lot when handling it. I didn't notice it while riding though.

- If you want to adjust the visor it's kind of a pain, they have little cam lock type screws that hold it down that are kinda hard to get a hold of.

Overall:
I feel that it's worth the money. I haven't had a lot of helmets, but a fair share and I'm satisfied with it. Most of the con's are minor things that have little effect on me. I've only rode with it once but I give it a thumbs up and would recommend at least looking into it when you go helmet shopping next. The link below is where I bought my helmet from. If the prices aren't in US Dollars, on the right hand side you can change the currency in a drop down menu.

Might look into HJCs... can find 'em on dennis kirk/moto superstore for under $200. I think I paid about $140 for my new ACX3.

Important part is to get one that fits well. Try a few different brands on and see which one works best.

After several years of trying different helmets I went back to Bell two years ago and couldn't be happier with the Moto8's. I've been shopping around for a new one lately for snowmobile season. You can get all the Moto8's in last years paint for $200 or less all over the web right now.
