New to the forum. Started riding when I was 7 or so. My brother had an Arctic Cat 440 Puma. I have always wanted snowmobiles and I finally got some this year. I started with a trailer and two 1992 Indy 500s that had been neglected. One was 700 miles and the other is almost 1100. Tore them apart and replaced/rebuilt a lot of aged parts and components. Then I bought another Polaris, a 1994 XLTSP that someone had put the long track from an RMK on. It was pretty abused and beat up but I'm getting it back together. Replaced the decking on the trailer and all new tires bearings and LED lights. And I cut the barn door off the front of it. It literally cut my mileage on a Dodge diesel in half when I went to Idaho to pick the XLT. Now I can hang some over the front and rear. It's one inch shy of being 8 foot. I have no idea why. Waiting for snow, like everyone else.

Welcome back to Sledding. You've got some classics, hope they treat you well. Friend had a XLT with the long track when I started riding it was a beast.

Thank you very much. the XLT finally fired up today, still have to do carb sync and reupholster the seat. But other than that all three are ready. Just need SNOW.

My enthusiasm was short lived. The crankcase had a bunch of gas in it and it wouldn't start today. So I have all the carbs back out. And guess what it started doing at about 5 this morning? Snowing like hell.

It's not quite cold enough to stick here in town but I will guarantee the Blues are getting dumped on. I have my two 500s ready except for checking track tension. I'm about ready to just push pause on the XLT and finish them. I can't ride the XLT even if I get the carbs sorted because I haven't got my new seatcover back from ScottysSledShed (evilbay). The straps on the first one he sent me were too short by half. But he's a really good vendor to work with.

this is my first year on forum & sledding waiting for my sled needs front bumper vender ordered it in august I know he feels bad its taking so long soon I hope at least I have time to find people & places to ride cant wait to get started!!!!

Its enough snow to wet the hyfax and cool the sled if its liquid cooled.
Its not enough to protect ur yard from the skis or a hard pull on the throttle.

You gotta understand, I'm in Eastern Oregon. Lawn is a stretch. It's horse pasture that I mow lol. Both of the 500s ran flawlessly. Although the one with higher miles clutches about 1000 RPM higher than the other. Both of these sat for about 15 years. They were neglected but they were covered. They weren't abused in the least. The XLT is a totally different story, it's been thrashed on. I'm getting it though. It felt really good to ride again. My acre has very little undisturbed snow now.

The XLT is still messing with me. Going to go back out to the shop and see if i can figure it out today. No start situation - carbs rebuilt and set to book, fuel pump rebuilt, new choke plungers and adjusted, new lines and filters, electrical checks out by the book. Nothing. I did find that the oil pump was way out of adjustment, basically was on 1/2 way while the carbs were at 'idle'. Last week when I pulled the plugs to see if they were gas soaked, you can't even smell gas but there was a light coat of oil on them. Stands to reason that if the pump were that far out of adjustment, it would be adding way too much oil to the fuel/air mixture while you are pulling it. To me it does anyway. So I got that all adjusted back to where it should be, and after I get the carbs synced will check it again. Hope this goes good.
