98 ps 600 efi backfiring

Just now getting back to working on the sled
its a 98 PS 600 EFI last ride of the season it lost power backfired, seemed to be flooding out. Kinda odd for an efi though. We have changed lots of stuff from its twin sister sled and the problem stays with the chassis not the switch parts. If i unplug the water sender it seems fine, even changed the sender with a new one, but when hooked up new it still miss fires. Any ideas how to tell if the stator is the likely problem? Thanks

Usually if it is backfiring it is one of a couple of issues: Timing key sheered, bad reed, could be a trigger going bad, could be moisture in the CDI/Stator connectors, could be a bad TSS/kill switch, could be a wiring harness short or it could be a bad stator. I've never seen one that having the water temp sensor hooked up would cause it to miss fire. I assume you have tried it a number of times. If this causes it to miss fire, track the wire back to the ecu and make sure it is not pinched and the connection is good. If this is the only thing that causes the miss fire I would say the ecu has a short in it, other wise follow Blaines advice, he's pretty sharp on the electrical stuff.
