98’ 700 rmk motor into 03’ 700 rmk edge chassis? Help??

Have a 98’ 700 rmk with a good motor but the chassis been abused and is about done. My friend is willing to sell me a 03’ 700 rmk with a decent chassis but a engine that is completely done. Cracked webbing and head! So my question is how much work would it be to transplant the motor out of the 98’ and into the 03’?? Hard, not hard?

Im pretty sure its a direct drop in. I think the cases are the same just the newer sled has a ves top end.

I see EDGE sleds with earlier Liberty motors for sale all the time, so it can't be that hard of a swap. You'll need to use the EDGE mounts and straps, and most likely, you'll just be dropping the long block in using all the EDGE parts. '98 would be Wedge chassis FWIW, so even less likely any other pieces will fit. Hopefully someone who's done the swap can chime in, but I'd just drop the long block in and keep going until you hit a snag or you're finished.

Could be an issue with electrical wiring, timing and other miscellaneous stuff. The 98 700 engine was a gas hog at 6 to 7 miles per gallon on the trail, as was told to me by an owner. Fixing the 03 engine will be easier and a better investment than going backward with a 98. Buy used parts on ebay.

The 98 motor will drop in. You will need to use the 98 wire harnes and cdi/coil. Use the motor straps and mounts from the edge. Use the edge y pipe and pipe. You can also use the rack carbs and boots from the edge. Just start out a little fat with the jetting. Check the cylinder# on the 98 see if it has 220 cylinders or 824s.

I would go to an 800 VES liberty engine, 03, 04 or 05. People are giving them away as well.
