I’m installing new pistons in a 96 ultra for my neighbor. Got the cylinders off and there’s a small brass fitting about 1” long and 1/8” diameter coming up out of the upper part of the crankcase between the mag and center cylinder. There was nothing tied into it but it sure seems like there should be. What is it for and should there be a hose hooked up to it? Have a look at the attached pictures. Fuel pump impulse fitting?

I would agree that’s the fuel pump pulse line. When I rebuilt our 680 that we sold years ago that’s where I remember the pulse line being for fuel pump.

Parts diagram also shows that’s a pulse fitting.

Think its just a vent for the water pump drive . It is a bit small for pulse line and no flared end to hold the hose on with clamp .
Pulse line nipple is located a bit farther down (lower) on the crankcase.
