So im 21 years old and I'm attempting my first rebuild on my 16 axis 800. Well once I tore into it, looking into the reed port on the PTO side I noticed this chip at the end. Was just hoping it would be a top end but looks like I've got bigger issues. Wondering if its salvageable or if I'm SOL and need a new crank case. Also threw in a pic of my shot piston and wonder if the jug looks fine or would that need work too. Any advice helps as I'm pretty green to engine rebuilds.

the chip on the case won't be a problem . it would be wise to check the crank over carefully to make sure nothing is floating around in there . you need to pull the cylinder and inspect for damage . i would bet a piece of the piston is missing .
