700 wildcat motor into a powder extreme/zrt chassis?

Here's the deal. I've got a '98 powder extreme chassis with a 600 triple that has a fried pto cylinder. I've also got a '92 wildcat with a 700 twin that the motor is good, but needs a bunch of fiberglass work.

How much of a pain in the rear would it be to combine the 700 twin into the powder extreme chassis?

I know I would probably be better off buying something already built, but I've just got this stuff sitting around and it's getting harder to justify buying another sled when I've got parts and chassis coming out my ears.

BTW, I'm not looking for this thing to perform miracles. Just looking for a cheap backup sled.

Should basically drop right in. Is the 98 PE s sluminum or steel bulkhead? They are essentially the same. If it's steel(98 i thought everything was aluminum?) then it should be a direct bolt in, if it's aluminum, either make yor mounts work or go buy some ZR700 mounts from a aluminum chassis'd sled. You could also replace the plastic to pretty much anything to present day.

The '98 Powder Extreme stock would have a steel bulkhead. It was still AWS 4 that year.

I don't believe any of your motor mounts would work, as the chassis are completely different.

I would think it would be quite a bit of work to get the motor mounts correct, but it could be done.

However, IMO, the 600 triple is a much better motor, and if all that is wrong is one cylinder and piston, I would look into fixing it instead.

Are they entirely different? I've put a 600twin in a zrt800 before. Took the 600 chassis and put a 580 in it. Had to weld one plate and cut and mount a motor mount differently but it was a basic bolt in? Weird.

The 600 twin should fit in any '99 or newer ZRT with no changes at all, the bulkheads were the same.

I haven't actually done this, I was just looking at parts diagrams, so it might be much easier than I would think.

Also, for your 580, they did make motor mounts to put a 580 in the AWS 5 chassis, so you could get them, and it would be essentially stock. The sled was a 2000 ZL 550 or 580 (the bottom end is the same), I believe.

It's been quite a while since I looked at any wildcat, or a ZRT older than a '99

700 wildcat

why not ,i put a 92 700 in a 93 580 ext back in the day, i needed a shoe horn but the powder extreme has more room.i have a set of psi twin pipes for a 92 700 wild cat carb + 18 hp $100 bucks in bc canada

my buddy did a wildcat 700 motor in his powder special 600 1998 chassis he had to buy this one mount.. but he has some jaws twins on it and something like K&N air filters.. and it works great!

I think this would be a fun project. I am thinking about updating the 580 in my 95 PS with something bigger... If you get it done lets see some pics.

Talk about a blast from the past. I abandoned the thoughts of the Wildcat Extreme. If I had my own shop and could afford to spend the time to fab up all that it would make it to work then I might have tackled it.

I just ended up putting a top end in the 600 triple.

I know it isn't a ZRT swap but here's my 94 700 in a newer AL chassis. I've posted it everywhere but I love the look of this thing.
